It is a countdown for the 10 fat turkeys fooling on a fence and the reader can determine for himself which is the goofiest. One by one they fall off the fence with their silly antics. One swings from a vine, one roller skates, one rides a boar, etc. At last there are none on the fence. And no more fence. Where have the turkeys gone? Why, they are fooling in a tree. Deas' humorous illustrations capture the silliness of this book. The turkeys are decked out in a wide range of hats and costumes. One is in an old-time aviator's outfit, while another is in a tuxedo and top hat. The board book format seems an unusual choice for a book that will be most appreciated by kindergarten and first graders who enjoy this type of humor. This was first published in 2004.     Funny Read for Preschool Age

    This book is well suited for the Pre-K thru Kindergarten age of children It is a fun quick read especially if you need to fill time at the end of the day in a classroom. The children enjoyed the funny illustrations but the book did not hold their attention.

    Fun Counting Book

    It is full of silly words and turkeys doing silly things while it teaches kids to count. It is entertaining and has great pictures.

    Rhyme was okay but not catchy

    It was a very bland rhyme that didn't encourage me to read more than once or twice.

    Fun & Silly!

    If you're looking for a serious book about Thanksgiving, then 10 Fat Turkeys is not the book for you. This book is about ten fat turkeys walking along a fence, when one by one they fall, break the fence, and perch on a tree instead. It's funny, and intended to appeal to the very young, or young at heart. The illustrations are bright, and bold, and will appeal to young children say 1 to 5-years. My son laughs when I read this book, and now at five he's starting to read it to himself. 10 Fat Turkey's mimicks the pattern in Melanie Gerth's, Ten Little Ladybugs, although Gerth's book is sweet, this work is just plain silly. 10 fat turkeys fooling on a fence. 'Looky!' says a silly turkey, swinging from a vine. GOBBLE GOBBLE WIBBLE WOBBLE whoops! Now there are...9. It's a lesson in simple subtraction, and one we enjoy reading after Halloween. It's not a Thanksgiving book per se, there is no mention of the holiday, or even the season. It just a fun, nonsense book for little tykes.
