Chapter One

All Creatures of Our God and King

All creatures of our God and King, Lift up your voice and with us sing.

Praise! Whether we sing it or shout it, our God is worthy of it! For all the stars He placed in the evening sky, O praise Him! For the silvery moon that lights our way at night, O praise Him! Let the zebra praise Him for his stripes, and the lion for his roar!

Let us praise Him for who He is. He is the Creator of all things. We thank Him for all He has done. Alleluia is a Hebrew word that means "Praise the name of God." Have you ever praised God with a song? Let's all praise the Lord by singing, "Alleluia!"

Word Watch

I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart.
Psalm 9:1 NKJV

MY PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, I praise you as Creator of all things! Amen.

God Made Me

God made me, God made me. In my Bible book it says that God made me.

It was God who put the buzz in the bumblebee. It was God who made the flowers in all the colors of the rainbow. He made every creature that lives on the earth. But there's something God made that is even more special. Do you know what it is? He made you! He made you just the way you are.

The first man was called Adam. The first woman was Eve. You were created in the image of God, just as they were. And when He created you, He had a special purpose in mind. What is it? You'll have to find out as you grow up. The One who put the buzz in the bumblebee has a purpose for you and for me!

Word Watch
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Psalm 139:14

MY PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, how awesome you must be to have made all things—even me!

Who Built the Ark?

Who built the ark? Noah! Noah! Who built the ark? Brother Noah built the ark.

We usually think of an ark as a boat. But an ark is any place of shelter in a storm. Noah's ark happened to be a giant boat. It also sheltered his family from the terrible storm that flooded the whole world.

Noah found shelter from the rainstorm in an ark. But there are other kinds of storms. Our families can have problems. Our friends can be unkind. Kids can tease us and hurt our feelings. But be glad ... we have an "ark" from these storms too! God is our shelter in stormy times. Depend on Him when you are troubled. Cast your cares on Him because He is your ark.

Word Watch

For You have been a shelter for me,
a strong tower from the enemy.
Psalm 61:3 NKJV

The
Lord

my
"ark"

MY PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, you are my "ark"; you are my shelter in the storm. I love you, Lord. Amen.

Is Anything Too Hard for the Lord?

Have a little faith, believe it's true, And you will find there's nothing He can't do.

God made a promise to Abraham: his children would outnumber the stars in the sky. But Abraham and Sarah were very old. Sarah laughed at the thought of having children at her age. But God spoke and said, "Is anything too hard for the Lord?" At age ninety, Sarah had a little baby boy named Isaac.

The story of Abraham and Sarah teaches us to keep our eyes on the promise, not on the problem. There is nothing our God cannot do. He can heal the sick, raise the dead, calm a sea, and even make blind eyes see! So why would Abraham and Sarah doubt God's promise of children? They did not understand how great God is! Nothing is too hard for Him! He is able to keep His promises to you.

MY PRAYER FOR TODAY

God Is So Good

God is so good, He's so good to me!

Isaac married a beautiful girl named Rebekah. They were about to get a big surprise! Rebekah was going to have twin boys. God is so good! But remember, God's goodness doesn't always mean a good time. Daniel faced a lions' den. And Jonah faced a whale. But God was still good!

Sometimes things happen that don't seem fair, and we can't understand why. But remember, the Bible says all things work together for the good of those who love God. Is there something in your life that you can't understand? It will work out for good ... because God is so good!

Word Watch

The Lord is good to all.
Psalm 145:9

God

MY PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, you have been good to me. Help me to be a blessing to others. Amen.

Whisper a prayer

Whisper a prayer To keep your heart in tune.

I once had an old guitar that I could not get in tune. The more I turned those tuning keys, the worse it sounded. In despair, I took my clanging guitar to a master musician. He listened to each string very carefully. Then he began to tune each one until that clanging guitar sounded like a new one. It just needed a master's touch to produce the right sound.

Sometimes our hearts can get "out of tune." We can get discouraged or even angry about something. We may try to fix it ourselves. But when nothing changes the "clang" in our heart, that's the time to go to the Master in prayer. Prayer changes things. It's like getting a spiritual tune-up.

Word Watch

Pray without ceasing.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 NKJV

Prayer

things

MY PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, I want my heart to be in tune with yours! Amen.

We Are Climbing Jacob's Ladder

Behold, I am with you and will watch o'er you; Soldiers of the cross.

As Jacob slept, he dreamed of angels. They were walking on a stairway up to heaven. The Lord spoke to Jacob in a dream, making this promise, "Behold, I am with you and will watch over you." And that is still the promise of God to His children today.

The same God who created the earth; who parted a mighty sea before Moses; who protected Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the flames; who closed the mouths of lions and opened blind eyes with a touch—the same almighty God has promised to watch over you! So do not be afraid. The God who watched over Jacob will watch over you.

World Watch

over you wherever you go.
Genesis 28:15

MY PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, thank you for watching over me throughout the day and night. I love you, Lord! Amen.

Joseph's Coat of Many Colors

Joseph had a coat of many colors. Many colors, many colors.

Joseph's father gave him a beautiful coat of many colors. His brothers were very jealous. Then Joseph told them of his dream: they would one day bow down before him. His brothers were very angry. All the unkind things that Joseph's brothers did started with a jealous heart.

Jealousy is not a good thing according to the Bible. We are to be content with what God has given us. Sometimes people do things we can't do. They get things we wish we had. In those moments, we must be careful that we don't become jealous or envious. Don't let jealousy or envy make its way into your heart. Be content with all that God has given you!

Word Watch

Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
Galatians 5:26

Let

MY PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, teach me to be content with what you have given me. Amen.

This Is the Day

This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Have you ever considered all the things God has done to make a day? First, God created light. Next, God created planet Earth. He set Earth spinning around the sun, which He also created. And while all of this is moving through millions of galaxies full of other suns and stars and planets, you lay sleeping in your bed.

Suddenly, the alarm clock goes off. Your dog jumps up and licks you on the face! You open your sleepy eyes, and say, "This is the day the Lord has made!" The next time you wake up grumpy, remember that God went to an awful lot of trouble to make your day. So rejoice and be glad!

Word Watch

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118:24 HCSB

MY PRAYER FOR TODAY

Lord, thank you for making today and for giving me eyes to see it. Amen.

100 Devotions, 100 Bible Songs 4.3 out of 5 based on 0 ratings. 7 reviews.

Each of the 100 stories are illustrated, have a key verse, a short prayer, and a song that goes with that lesson. The short stories have stories from the Bible or the author's childhood. All the stories intertwine Biblical principles in them with application for today. The songs are clearly marked on the devotional page. So, you will know which CD and which song number goes with that story. Some of the songs are classic songs such as "Now the Day is Over," others are newer upbeat songs such as the one that goes with the title of this review. The songs have children's voices singing with some adults. If you are looking for a devotional for young children or even just a Christian Children's music CD, this does not disappoint.

Today's book review is for a book called 100 Read and Sing Devotions, which was created by Stephen Elkins and illustrated by Tim O'Connor. The book is a beautifully illustrated devotional that parents can share with their children. The padded cover gives the book a feeling of quality and the music CD's that accompany the book add to the appeal. The songs on the CD are sung by kids, and the little voices give the songs a better with the book and devotional. Each devotion is set to start with a song, then a short story which is accompanied by a prayer and bible verse. When I first open the package with the book I was expecting to see a book of bible stories, but when I read through the entries I found myself really liking the layout. The book has the perfect length of reading that keeps a young child interested. When I listened to the CD my one-year-old daughter stopped playing and listened to the songs being played. I find that using children to sing the songs is an added touch that made the Book and CD combination complete. A great book to read to your children or to gift to parents for sharing with their children.

Looking for a devotional book that you think your kids will like? Well then, look no further, 100 Devotions, 100 Bible Songs is just the right book for kids of all ages. It's easy to read, easy to follow with attractive illustration for the young children's eyes. Personally, I think this book is rather eye-catchy, and children would be really tempted to hook up with it. I highly recommends this book as gifts and as material to be used in Sunday classes in church. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. I received an ARC of this book from Tommy Nelson Publisher and i was not compensated in any ways for writing this review.

100 Read & Sing Devotions Do you have a child in your life that you long to share God's Word with, but need a little guidance as where to start? 100 Read & Sing Devotions is a great book to get you started. Per the title, the book contains 100 devotionals, each one including a song, written devotional, scripture, and a prayer. The book is also arranged in a Biblical order with the devotional material extending from the Old Testament to the New. Also included with the devotional are 2 CD's that go along with each devotion, the corresponding song number labeled on the page as a guide. This is a super-cute devotional. I recently had a friend ask me if I could recommend a devotional for her 5 year old son, and I wasn't very familiar with devotionals, only children's Bibles. Now I have something to share with her! I believe the content would be appropriate for children ages 3-10. One example of a devotional you will find is "The Lord Is Good to Me." The song that goes with it is of the same name as the devotional title. The content is the story of Hannah, and how she was given baby Samuel after she prayed. The scripture is "Wait for the Lord."-Psalm 27:14. And the prayer is "Lord, You have heard my prayer. Now I will wait on You to answer. Amen." As I said in my introduction, I would recommend this book for anyone who would like to teach their child about the Lord and His Word, but doesn't know where to start. It is a great devotional for anyone with small children. It would also be great for teachers in a church nursery, daycare, or even at school. Many blessings to you on your journey with the Lord, and the special children in your life! ~Beth Disclosure Statement: I received this book free from Booksneeze as part of a free books for bloggers program. This is a children's devotional book that has two compact discs filled with Christian music. The purpose of this book is to get parents and kids together for devotionals including music and the messages that the music brings to us. This book I would say is geared toward maybe a kid between the ages of 3 to 7 although some of the subject matter seams to be more for a teen or preteen the younger kids would enjoy the style much more. I will probably skip over some of the devotionals when reading them to my daughter just because they don't match up with what I believe as a Christian. Although many of the devotionals don't match up age wise the concept of quiet times about or set to the music that we sing is a great idea. I have been going over some with my daughter age 2 even though I know she don't understand because it is important to start early teaching our children about our amazing God. She enjoys listening to the songs and quietly pays attention to the little devotional afterwards. I love the illustrations they are full of color and positive energy. I would say to others to look at the authors spiritual believes before buying this or any other devotional book for your kids so that you can get the most out of it. I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. Every page of this book are little nuggets rich in scriptures through illustrations, reading, a short verse and a small prayer. I found it to be of high quality in terms of the book cover, page quality and oh it also comes with 2 CDs full of songs. If I were to give this as a gift, I am sure to "wow" the receiver. But I am not gifting this to anyone as my son loves to read this book! He finds it easy to understand and he is also learning the short Bible verses, which is awesome. The CDs have found their home in our car and my son ( and me) loves the songs and sings along by shaking his head to the beats! It is a great set for small children as young as 3 and a valuable tool to teach and help children grow in their faith. ( Disclaimer: Thanks to Thomas Nelson Publishers, I received a free advanced reading copy of this book as part of their book review bloggers program. I was not monetarily compensated for this review. School isn't in session yet here (I can't get used to the fact they don't start til after Labor Day), so I've had plenty of kids around to share this latest book and CD set. 100 Devotions, 100 Bible Songs includes 2 CD's. I found this convenient, as one CD instantly went into the car, and the other stayed at home. We also had some out-of-town company this week, so got to double up on the kid testers. All in all, this book and CD was a hit. Some of the stuff was familiar to the kids, and they could sing along. Others were new (at least to us!) and will be learned in time. The book itself is sturdy and well-illustrated, enough to catch the attention of the kids. I think this book will be a valuable addition to a child's collection. Please note that I received this book at no charge from BookSneeze in exchange for an honest review.
