    I Also Recommend:

The recipes seem to work every time.

Paul Hollywood has written a book that allows you to bake bread without any fuss at all. My wife bought it for a present for me; it was on sale at the book store. I have been baking bread just about every day since. There are two pages of basic directions. They mostly say "DON'T WORRY" - no warm place for the bread to rise - "it will rise in the refrigerator - given long enough", proofing the yeast - "just throw it in dry" and so on. All you need is a bowl, something to measure cups of flour, a set of measuring spoons, a baking tray, and some parchment paper. And of course flour. We've stopped buying little five pound bags, now we get 25 pound bags from the market. Pretty much any kind of yeast works too. The ingredient listings are a bit inconsistent, the measurements range from packets, to ounces, to sticks of butter. By the way, dough made with sticks of butter is probably something not found in the stores, tastes really luxurious. Oh, and the Nan bread recipe works great if you are making a curry.

I've baked bread for parties, potlucks, gifts, and every day use. Lots of compliments.

Nothing to do with the review but it's strange that bread bakes at around 400F or a bit warmer, which is the temperature paper, and wood, starts to burn at - Fahrenheit 451 (another great book, and a movie) - so the parchment paper looks a little brown on the hotter recipes.

There's space in the book to put notes too. So if you need a bit more yeast next time - you can remind yourself.

    Yum!!!!!!

This is a amazing book. My dad got it for christmas and since then he has made almost all are breads! We haven't had to buy bread for months. This book is great to read and so easy to use! Even my little brother can use it with ease. The breads also taste so good! We made bread for al my teachers for a present and they all loved it! This is a great book to give as a present and my whole family loves it.

    more from this reviewer

A Great Book for the Beginner Interested in the Art of Bread Making.

Hollywood takes a practical approach to bread making and all his recipes are ones you'll want to try. He really takes the frustration out of learning to make your own loaf.

    Recipies are wrong

I purchased this book for two recipies, both were wrong. There is no way the proportions were worked out correctly. I ended up trying to salvage it, but the 'bread' went into the trash out of the oven. A nightmare. The pictures are lovely. That's why I gave it a 2 star rating.
