For those who like quantity, not quality

This book was received for review from Thomas Nelson's Booksneeze program.

100 Prayers God Loves to Hear, 100 Praise Songs is exactly what it sounds like. Stephen Elkins took 100 prayers - from the Bible, to rhyming prayer ditties (like "Now I lay me down to sleep"), to The Serenity Prayer - grouped them with little quotes like "It would be much better to forget to play than to forget to pray!", and added illustrations by Tim O'Connor. But wait, there's more. The book is accompanied by 100 Praise Songs, a song for each prayer.

This book for kids might have worked out great if Elkins didn't have to keep with the "100? number (he also has 100 Bible Stories, 100 Songs). If he had taken perhaps the top 15 (maybe 20 at a stretch) and really focused on making quality instead of quantity, perhaps I would have liked this book. The 2 CD's of 50 songs each will probably never find it to our stereo again. Some people do like cheesy kids choir songs, and that's okay, but I'm not one of them.

Am I quickly turning into the reviewer who always gives a bad review? I hope not. I think that we should place quality books in children's hands.

The only impressive thing for me about this book was the sheer number of pages for a kids book.

100 Prayers God Loves to Hear,100 Praise Songs

    ISBN: 978-1-4003-1549-9

    Created by: Stephen Elkins

    Illustrations by: Tom O'Connor

    My Review:

Each devotion is brightly colored to attract your children attention.

The lessons in this book is short but full of life of God's word.

All of the stories in this book have a prayer and a song that

go with it. It makes it fun for the children to relate a song to

    a prayer.

    For instance:

    "A Prayer for Jesus"

"Jesus' song"-I got joy down in my heart"

There are 158 prayers and songs in this book.

In 100 prayers God loves to hear, they have a little prayer

reminder, which is from a famous/influential person's quote.

    For example:

    Mother Teresa

"God speaks in the silence of the heart".

"Listening is the beginning of prayer."

I love having this in this book because God has equipped many

people with Godly wisdom that can be instilled in our children.

100 Prayers God loves to hear has two cd's of all the songs

that match the prayers in this book.

    Beloved prayers fill this book:

    For Example:

    Psalm 51:10.12

"Create in me a pure heart,O God

Restore to me the joy of your salvation

and grant me a willing spirit,to sustain me".

The prayer is on one page and a beautiful illustration is on the

other side and then you listen to the cd after your prayer.

This book your children will surely love, we did.

Thanks again to Thomas Nelson for letting us review it.

    Have a blessed day!!!

A Fun Way to Pray With Kids

I was unsure about this book (100 Prayers God Loves to Hear) when requesting it from Booksneeze. Sometimes the "religious and spiritual" genre for kids can be pretty lame.

Basically, this book contains 100 devotional type pages that a parent can read with their child, all centered around prayer. It's pretty cool because it features prayers from some of our spiritual fathers and mothers (Mother Teresa, St. Francis, Cecil Francis Alexander, etc.) that you can pray with your child.

One of my favorite entries is one that tells how God made peanuts and grapes, and how we can eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches- and how we can thank God for that! Many of the devotions surround the idea of thankfulness, which is a real important (and difficult) one for kids to learn.

The book includes 2 CDs with a song that goes along with each devotion. The songs aren't ones that adults would choose to listen to if they were by themselves, but they're not too annoying if one doesn't mind VBS-style music. Asante and Aly both really really liked both the book and music- Asante even asked me to put some music on while we ate lunch!

Of course, there are a couple, okay, well, one, devotion that I wasn't too fond of (hint: the song that goes with it is America the Beautiful), BUT out of 100 devotions, I can easily skip over the one I don't like and the kids will never know. Overall, this is a really good book. I like the idea and it seems to be really appropriate for young children (probably ages 2-5). I think this would be a good gift to give!

    Great Devotion!

100 Prayers God Loves to Hear, 100 Praise Songs is one of latest of many books by Stephen Elkins that we've been enjoying adding to our children's home library. This book is filled with many colorful eye catching illustrations that are done by well known children's book illustrator Tim O'Connor.

In this book, you'll find 100 prayers, both well known and those you may have never heard before. Each prayer is introduced with a short story/devotional showing how each prayer can practically be applied each day. You'll also find quotes and prayers from famous people and Bible characters as well as daily prayer reminders.

I like that for each daily devotion you can also incorporate either of the two full length music Cd's included. When using this book you can sing, read, and discuss with heart to heart talk, which overall makes a great devotion time for your children.

Another great feature is that in the beginning of the book there is a section that highlights ten verses that speak about prayer. I think it would be great to memorize these over the span of doing the devotion with your kids! I say this book is a definite must to own for young kids!

Great book, not so great cd's

100 Prayers God Loves to Hear by Stephen Elkins is a great resource to have around for kids to browse through, learn scripture, and keep nearby for daily devotions and nighttime prayers. This book comes with two CD's containing 100 songs of prayer and praise that connect with each of the 100 prayers inside the book. This is a good book for youngsters ages 2-6.

The messages in the book are presented in a clear way with great illustrations, quotes from historic people, and simple poems. Each page includes a short explanation about the topic of prayer, a short saying or poem, an example of a prayer, a cute illustration, and a prayer reminder. You are also told which song will accompany that reading.

The only downside to this book is the cd's that come with it. I love that the book is laid out clearly enough to know which song to use for each topic of prayer, but the music is sung at such a high pitch. After playing through the cd, I turned the music off because it was a bit overstimulating and annoying. I wish the same songs were sung a bit lower in pitch and slower in speed. Learning the lyrics to the songs might be difficult for some because of these factors.

We are definitely keeping and using the book! I might even add it to our homeschool devotion curriculum! Perhaps I'll play the cd's when my kids are playing in another room without me!

Thomas Nelson provided the book for free in return for an unbiased and honest review.

Review of 100 Prayers God Loves to Hear

The book includes mini lessons about prayer, prayers, some quotes from the Bible, and quotes from famous individuals. I liked most of the prayers and quotes. There were just a few prayers and quotes I did not like. The book comes with two CD's. The songs that go with the book are fun especially for younger children. I would recommend this book to families with preschoolers and early elementary children. The book could be used as part of a devotion time with young children.

100 Prayers God Loves To Hear, 100 Praise Songs

My four year old nephew has just started school and there can be no better moment and opportunity to start learning God's words than through "100 Prayers God Loves To Hear, 100 Praise Songs", created by Stephen Elkins and illustrated by Tim O' Conner. This book created for and targeted towards children comes as an innovative and prudent initiative. Most parents grapple with the exercise of initiating the young ones to faith and God's word but now with this title along with the 2 Cds that accompany it, the task becomes much simpler.
Each page has a lovely little prayer in a colored box in the center with a colored and relating picture on the opposite page and a quote at the bottom. This beautiful scheme is bound to catch the attention and fancy of children. The Cds contain songs sung by children and are quite refreshing to the ears. Kids will love it. Overall I think this is a lovely collection that every child would love to have in his library and every parent would be proud to gift.

Great Addition to a Child's Library

100 Prayers and 100 Praise Songs God Loves to Hear is a great addition to any family's library. The prayers are many and fun for the kids to follow along. I the book and the 2 disc inserts were a hit this morning when my three year old daughter found the CD player and popped one of the CD's in. She was playing it all morning. The songs are sung by children and have many classics that we hear all of the time and some that are new to me.

The illustrations are bold and beautiful and make the reading fun and enjoyable for children. I have four children under the age of 5 and when we opened up the book, it took me a while to actually have the opportunity to review it as they took off with it. My oldest is just starting to read, but the pictures drew them in. The illustrations are strong enough, that young children will know exactly what the words are talking about if they attend church on a regular basis.

My only negative aspect of the book, and this is nitpicking, is the length. It is very long for a child's book. 100 prayers, with the narrative that accompanies each prayer and a quote or bible verse on the opposite page makes for a very lengthy read when working with children. I read the entire book, but have yet to be able to get through the whole book with my children as they lose interest in the words.

Book Review: 100 Prayers God Loves to Hear, 100 Praise Songs

This book was a answer to my prayer! Yes, my prayer was one that God loved to hear. I was praying for a book with verses and short prayers that i could read to my son before bedtime. I also wished for a CD with short, familiar christian songs that my son could listen and learn. My joy knew no bounds when i received this book from Thomas Nelson for review ! My son has even started calling this book "my book" !

The author Stephen Elkins has done an excellent compilation of verses, prayers and small thoughts just apt for young minds. Each page has a theme followed by a prayer or a verse. It is filled with colorful pictures and also come with 2 audio CDs. Each CD has 50 melodious songs that can be easily learned by repetition. From cover to cover, this cute book will encourage children to pray and develop the habit of talking to God.

I love to listen to these songs along with my son as it brings back memories of sunday school and VBS. You can make the investment on this book without second thoughts!

Perfect gift set for young ones learning to pray

100 Prayers God Loves to Hear/100 Praise Songs is a very cute book/cd gift set for little guys and girls. It is appropriate for children of all ages, (I would recommend 0- 10 years,) and fun for parents to read aloud.

Each page gives a different prayer, along with a little synopsis of where the prayer came from. Each page also has a quote or "prayer reminder." The illustrations are fun and relevant to each prayer.
I enjoyed that the prayers come from all different sources. There are some directly from the Bible, some from religious leaders and examples like St. Francis of Assisi and Martin Luther, and also some from historical figures like Abraham Lincoln and Robert Louis Stevenson. Each page also features a little picture that tells you which CD and which track number the prayer can be found on. The songs are sweet, and helpful to teach children how to develop their relationship with God through prayer.

This would make a great gift for your children or grandchildren. I am going to give it to mine for Christmas, though it is appropriate for any occasion, or no occasion at all! I would give this book 5 stars for content, illustrations, and relevance.
