Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Featuring entries on everything from the World Series to the Kbit entucky Derby and the Westminster Dog Show, Tuchman has written a detailed encyclopedia cum travel guide for every kind of sporting event. Each entry includes a thorough description of the event with the where and when as well as the history and significance, the names of key athletes and MVPs, how to get there, how to get tickets, where to stay, where to eat, and, most importantly, where the best seats are.

Tuchman (founder & president, TSE Sports & Entertainment), a consultant on sports event travel, here gives aficionados of most sports, from golf to baseball, basketball, tennis, hockey, cycling, to football, both American and soccer, a virtual bible of information on the top 100 sporting events worldwide that he recommends traveling to for the live experience. Tuchman presents each sport or event (e.g., the Head of the Charles, the World Cup) with a brief history, followed by specific ticketing information, hotel and restaurant guides, and important phone numbers, i.e, the essentials to plan your trip. From the Masters to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Title Fight and every sport in between, including Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, the Iditarod, and the Running of the Bulls, Tuchman's no-holds-barred attitude presents readers with information they can understand and actually use, with most of the entries including web addresses for additional information. VERDICT Tuchman's book is not only a great resource for vacation planning but also for general sports interest. Highly recommend for all sports fans, both armchair—even if he'd rather you saw the events live!—and traveling—Rachel Winchel, Louisiana Tech Univ., Ruston

    Interesting Sports Reference Book

100 Sporting Events You Must See Live is a no-brainer gift for the sports lover in your life. Robert Tuchman's book, subtitled An Insider's Guide To Creating The Sports Experience Of A Lifetime, guides the average person in doing just that.

The book lists 100 different amazing sports events. Everything is here from the Masters and Super Bowl and World Cup to the Kentucky Derby, Westminister Dog Show, Calgary Stampede, Boston Marathon, Monaco Grand Prix, Ironman World Championship, and the most important down here in Tarheel country, the UNC vs. Duke basketball game.

For each event, Tuchman gives valuable information. Categories include where the event is held, when, the significance and history of the event, notable athletes participating and how tickets are obtained. He details travel arrangements, and even provides hotel and restaurants close by the action.

This book is sure to be a favorite with any sports lover. Meticulously researched, it provides help for those interested in going in person to these events, and a pleasant fantasy for those unable to go as they page through the book. This book is recommended for sports lovers of any variety, and would be a welcome gift.

    Very subjective list.

I think I first heard about this book in a feature on ESPN.

Bottomline the book is very subjective in its' ranking of events; and at best should be considered a guide of some events a sports fan might want to see.

Point in case it ranks Harvard vs. Yale at Yale (football) #23 and the Kentucky Derby #24...ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! Neither one of those schools has had a competitive program in nearly 100 years; whereas the Derby is a southern institution that brings out celebs and race fans by the 100,000s over a 2 day period.

The book also makes it seem like the only way to get tickets for ANY of the events is going through the ticket service affiliated with the author.
    Again, RIDICULOUS!

Anyone can attend the Derby and hangout in the paddock area and Millionaires' Row concession area by paying the gate fee of $25. You'll see celebs, get jockey autographs, take pictures of and with the gorgeous women and dapper gents dressed for the all day party...

...or attend the qualifying rounds of the U.S. Open (tennis) for FREE!

The book should be reorganized without the 1 - 100 rankings; and offer ways to attend the given events for little or nothing where possible.
