    BEST BOOK FOR CELIAC'S

I was diagnosed in 1977 with a wheat allergy...no one had ever heard of such a thing...I thought the Doctor was nuts!! But followed the diet and was cured of all my aliments (well most). Since that time I have had to cook everything from scratch...there were no special flours available or labeling until lately. I have tried my share of "Gluten Free" cook books and eaten a lot of gritty nasty food. This book is first Gluten-Free cook book that is like a Betty Crocker Cook Book for Celiac's, with a large selection of interesting foods. Most Gluten-Free cook books think we live by horrible bread alone...not so with this book. I love the fact that this book includes recipe other than just bread, cakes and cookies! In addition this book includes reseach information and web sites for follow up, more research informations, support groups and products. I bought two of these books...had one broken down into a spiral bound book, making it easier to use while cooking and to write notes in...I LOVE THIS BOOK!!

Great book for a new Celiac

After I was diagnosed with Celiac's disease, a friend got me this book. My husband (no issues with gluten) and I have been pleasantly surprised by the recipes in this book. We make at least two recipes a week and we've not found one that we didn't like!

The format of the book is easy to read, broken down into breads, snacks, soups, pasta, meats, etc. Each recipe has a short introduction (history behind it, alternative ingredients to use) and the directions are easy to follow. At the beginning of each section there is a list of recipes - My only wish is that next to each recipe there had been page numbers to find that recipe, as some of the sections are quite large and you either have to flip through the section to find the recipe or look it up in the index.

There are some quick recipes in this book, but there also some labor intensive ones (usually the ones involving dough). There is a wide variety of flavors to be found in this book (Hungarian goulash to Carne asada to gnocci to shrimp and grits) and to be honest, I'd recommend it to even the non-celiac cook!

    Not impressed

I want a basic betty crocker type cook book with all the old classics converted for me. Most of what I found in this book where odd to say the least. I got very frusterated. Not much for 1,000 recipes that I would use. What happened to a good plain cream of something soup besides tomato so I can make our favorite casseroles? Of all the books I've checked out of the library in search of a gluten free cookbook for my personal library this is way to exotic for my tastes! The best page in the whole book for me was xvii where it explains how to convert a cake recipe and xviii how much thickener(different types and thier uses) to replace 1 tablespoon of wheat flour. Otherwise I have had more luck finding recipes similar to mine on line. I need something that touches more on what is the main course without it being unique and unfamilar.

    Great recipes

You can cook great items and still be gluten free. I just have a problem with wheat. I am following the blood type diet and wheat is a no-no for o-.Great book has helped me alot and I feel so much better staying away from wheat!
