Never show everything

"Girls, Gags & Giggles" - this was publisher Robert Harrison’s recipe for dishing up the American pin-up to the U.S. male. In the 1950s his girlie magazines sold by the millions, before becoming icons of pulp and trash culture.

These skilfully illustrated girls with their curvaceous forms and inviting lingerie soon overtook America’s national dessert, in terms of popularity, and even developed considerable potential as a cultural export during the 1940s. "Never show everything," was always the motto. Smiling prettily at the camera, the models exuded just the right amount of sex appeal without seeming too sophisticated or artful. They were the ’girls next door’ whose wholesome attraction soon made one forget the magazines’ deliberately trashy presentation. Their rosy complexions and innocent allures still titillate even in an age when far more graphic material is the norm. For everyone who enjoys pin-ups, push-ups and pulp style!

“To look at these pictures is to remember that there was a time when taking off your clothes was a potent gesture, when the mere fact of a naked woman could be thrilling.” National Post, Toronto

I bought this for my boyfriends as a suprise because he loves the old pin-up girls and Betty Page. He did not read much of it, but instead loved the pictures. He loved it and i also found it interesting.

A nice value for the price.

This book is really thick, and when they say 1000 pinup girls, they're not kidding. Not all the pinups are painted, which is my favorite. Some of them are actual pictures, which makes the nostalgia of the item more authentic! I like it, and would be a great coffee table book.

Contains every version of pinup art from the 30's to the 50's. Calendars, nose art, advertising, matchbook covers, blotters, magazines, and more.

This book has a lot of colorful pages of beautiful iconic models from the classic days of the 1940's, 50's and 60's. The book is quite big and it's a bit heavy. There are so many pin-up girls it's well worth the value of the book. These pin-up girls look great in every page. The models are sexy, fun, and exciting while keeping things appropriate. There are plenty of well photograph girls and very good drawings of girls. There is no nudity so don't feel embarrassed to have this on your shelf. It's a good fun book that any guy would like.
