Overview

It's a testament to the level of devotion enjoyed by swing eccentric and electronics pioneer Raymond Scott that the centennial of his birth could be celebrated with a special vinyl figurine, encased in a retro box designed by Archer Prewitt and also including a 20-minute CD EP of music (and demonstrations). Children be warned, however, the box instructs that this is an "Adult Collectible," not a toy, although the only cautionary note or small part to be found in the entire box is Scott's oddly contorted left arm (the right has an index finger extended so he can play a miniature Clavivox, also included). The CD includes five tracks, three of which have Scott demonstrating his instruments (Clavivox, Electronium, and Rhythm Modulator). The other two bookend the collection, an early version of "Powerhouse" by his classic Quintette and a track ("The Happy Whistler") from his Soothing Sounds for Baby, Vol. 2 LP. It's obviously not an essential piece of Raymond Scott's career, but the quintessential obsessive fan will consider it a necessity.
