Meet the Author

Back in 1984, we were next-door neighbors raising our families in the little town of Delaware, Ohio.
Two moms with small children, we were looking for a way to do what we loved and stay home with the
kids too. We had always shared a love of home cooking and making memories with family & friends
and so, after many a conversation over the backyard fence, Gooseberry Patch was born.
We put together our first catalog at our kitchen tables, enlisting the help of our loved ones wherever we
could. From that very first mailing, we found an immediate connection with many of our customers and
it wasn't long before we began receiving letters, photos and recipes from these new friends. In 1992, we
put together our very first cookbook, compiled from hundreds of these recipes and, the rest, as they say,
is history.
Hard to believe it's been over 25 years since those kitchen-table days! From that original little
Gooseberry Patch family, we've grown to include an amazing group of creative folks who love
cooking, decorating and creating as much as we do. Today, we're best known for our homestyle,
family-friendly cookbooks, now recognized as national bestsellers.
One thing's for sure, we couldn't have done it without our friends all across the country. Each year,
we're honored to turn thousands of your recipes into our collectible cookbooks. Our hope is that each
book captures the stories and heart of all of you who have shared with us. Whether you've been with us
since the beginning or are just discovering us, welcome to the Gooseberry Patch family!

A Wealth of Recipes to choose, from every Category

I recommend that you check the Gooseberry Patch Nook section often, because I got this one for less than a dollar! It's a wonderful, colorful cookbook with photos of each dish along with the recipe. The categories include: Appetizers, Beverages, Breakfast, Desserts, Main Dishes, Salads, Sandwiches, Side Dishes and Soups. There's recipes that cross a few cultures such as Hispanic, Finnish, Amish and Italian. You can find slow cook and quick dishes. Since this is an "Autumn" cookbook, they included recipes for Halloween (many cookies) and Thanksgiving. Many are heart-healthy of course and many include veggies available during the autumn season. I already made the "zucchini patties," and loved the easy, tasty recipe.

    not for a b/w reader

I wouldn"t order another cookbook for my nook unless just for a reference to a recipe. I like looking at pictures of the food I"m cooking. It was so small and you couldn"t see the whole recipe at a glance, instead had to flip page a couple times. But love gooseberry cookbooks. It is about the only books I buy now since owning my nook.

    Fresh Autumn Recipes!

Don't you just love Autumn? I love it because the weather cools off, life takes on a familiar routine and I get to cook comfort foods! Thanks to Gooseberry Patch for putting together another fab cookbook, 101 Autumn Recipes so I can find new foods to make for my family.

I love the 101 line of cookbooks from Gooseberry Patch. Not only are there 101 recipes but there are also 101 mouth-watering photos of each recipe. I purchased a copy of this cookbook for my local library, which I know they are going to enjoy as much as I have.

Here are the chapters and some of my favorites to try:

School Days: Break-of-Day Smoothie, Cinnamon Toast Balls, Cheese Pops (I'm making these for my Christmas Open house) A Pocket Full of Pizza and Warm Spiced Milk
Busy-Day Dinners: Thumbs-up Cornbread Salad, No-Bake Pumpkin-Butterscotch Pie, Autumn Apple Milkshake and Caramel Fudge Brownies
Fun with Friends: Toasted Ravioli, Cheddar-Bacon Balls, Pumpkin Chowder, Touchdown Butterscotch Dip, Swampwater Dressing, Pumpkin Patch Cheese Ball (adorable) and Cream-Filled Witches' Hat
Country Harvest: Harvest Apple Cheesecake, Cran-Orange Pork Medallions, Chestnut Stuffing, Ben's Pecan Blondies, Mom's Caramel Sweet Potatoes, Honey Pumpkin Pie

Here is one of the tasty recipes:

    Honey-Pumpkin Pie

    15 oz can pumpkin
    3/4 c. honey
    1/2 t. salt
    1 t. cinnamon
    1/2 t. ground ginger
    1/4 t. ground cloves
    1/4 t. nutmeg
    3 eggs, beaten
    2/3 c. evaporated milk
    1/2 c. milk
    9 inch pie crust

Stir together pumpkin, honey, salt and spices in a large bowl. Add eggs and mix well; stir in both bilks. Place pie crust in a 9" pie plate; flute edges, forming a high rim to hold pumpkin filling. Do not pierce crust. Place pie plate on oven rack; pour in filling; Bake at 375 degrees for 55-60 minutes, or until set. Let cool before serving. Makes 6-8 servings.

    Yum :)

You can get this book at Barnes & Nobel spiral bound or on the Nook (wonderful pictures are on the Nook Color). Check out Gooseberry Patch online, too.
