Children's LiteratureWhere is there less than 10 inches of rain in a year and daytime temperatures as high as 122 degrees Fahrenheit? The reader of this nonfiction book will learn that the answer is in the desert. There are 101 facts on the traits, formation, plant and animal life, and ecology of the world's deserts included in this useful book. Each fact is numbered and between six to ten facts are presented on each two-page spread. Elementary school teachers and students will find this book very useful during a unit about the world's habitats. For ease of use, the book includes a glossary and index; words included in the glossary are written in bold face throughout the book. In addition, an introductory page providing an overview of desert life, an excellent list of web links for additional information on the topic and a list of suggested books for further reading are provided in the text. Also, the map showing the location of the world's deserts is a helpful tool for students to reference as they read about the various deserts. 2004 (orig. 2003), Gareth Stevens Publishing/World Almanac Education Group, Ages 8 to 11.
