Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Get in gear with this awesome big-rig lift-the-flap! Cruising their way to Hollywood, 101 trucks are carrying loads of movie props inside their trailers, from "performing fleas" to "skeletons that really fight" to "zigzags for lightning and machines for thunder." Ken Wilson-Max has given each page a bright, retro-feeling touch that sparkles with Tinseltown glamour, while Sam Williams's easy text smoothly rolls right along with it ("Rollin' load... / Rollin' road.. ./ Feelin' good... / Hollywood!"). Revealing plenty of surprises to capture kids' imaginations about moviemaking, this sunny read hauls in the fun and leaves you feeling fabulously behind-the-scenes.
Publishers Weekly
In a follow-up to their Long Train: 101 Cars on the Track by Sam Williams, illus. by Ken Wilson-Max, 101 Trucks portrays colorful vehicles headed for Hollywood. The numbered trucks rumble across the page horizontally, each with a liftable flap that reveals its contents (e.g., "gigantic cranes," "a stunt-performing plane," "windows and drapes," and "boots and capes."
Children's Literature
What young pre-school boy would not want to open the flaps on the container sections of 101 trucks to see what is inside? All the flaps are easy to open due to an empty fingernail-size section cut away under each flap. Words are revealed on the underside of each flap to describe the contents. They are not verses but there is a bit of jingle as: "windows and drapes" is followed by "boots and capes." No two trucks are alike in their colors or designs; and truck number 101, as the parade of trucks pulls into Hollywood, California, is as long as an entire page is wide! Girls, too, may enjoy this book, as the trucks on the last page seem to be carrying the hoop-la for a big opening-night celebration. 2003, Scholastic/Cartwheel,
