Revised and updated in 2013, 101 Whiskies to Try Before You Die is a whisky guide with a difference. It is not an awards list. It is not a list of the 101 'best' whiskies in the world in the opinion of a self-appointed whisky guru. It is simply a guide to the 101 whiskies that enthusiasts must seek out and try in order to complete their whisky education. Avoiding the deliberately obscure, the ridiculously limited and the absurdly expensive, whisky expert Ian Buxton recommends an eclectic selection of old favourites, stellar newcomers and mystifyingly unknown drams that simply have to be drunk. The book decodes the marketing hype and gets straight to the point; whether from India, America, Sweden, Ireland, Japan or the hills, glens and islands of Scotland, here are the 101 whiskies that you really want. Try them before you die - Slainte!

I made an account specifically to write this review and say that I've had the same problems as the reviewer below me. When I originally ordered this book I was told it would arrive well in time for me to give it as a Christmas present. It has been pushed back so many times now that I got a notice saying I needed to extend my order for 30 days if I still wished to receive it. At this point, I no long want the item, and especially not from this seller, but the order still shows as active in my account, despite not choosing to extend it for 30 days. I feel like this entire transaction was just very unprofessional and I'd not choose to do business with this seller again.

We ordered this book early December. Two weeks later received a notice that there was a problem with delivery and we should expect to receive it 5 - 7 days later. We understood and waited. 5 days later we received a note that the book was delayed another 30 days. This seller is trying to sell books they do not even own. I could've purchased an alternate gift if i'd know this was a scam, but instead I was left without a gift to give. This is poor management. They did not even offer anything for my trouble. I would avoid this seller.

I gifted this to my brother-in-law for Christmas this year. He seemed excited about the concept and while flipping through he identified a few he's already had. I picked out a bottle from the book and gifted that as well - something i knew he wouldn't normally buy for himself. He noticed the whiskey i picked was in there after only a quick flip through. Everyone has different tastes, so this book is ideal not to rate which are the best whiskies, but to describe the tastes and the histories of the brand.
