Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Carter takes the popular Twelve Days of Christmas to new heights—literally—with his pop-out, pop-up bug creations. It starts with a Fruitcake Bug in a pear tree—no partridge here—and flies through the Twelve days until we encounter a dozen Angel Bugs a-rising. Kids who have trouble remembering the sequences in the original tune will delight in this version and undoubtedly get the sequence right every time. Each page has a beautiful box all nicely wrapped just waiting for those little ones to lift the flap and see what pops up. Carter, like Sabuda, is a master of the pop-up craft. For those kids who are curious about the construction of pop-ups, Carter's book The Elements of Pop-Up is not to be missed. The 12 Bugs of Christmas is a book that will fit into little hands and one that will stand up to considerable use. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
Fans of Carter's Bugs in a Box series get more of what they like in this pop-up parody as a nimble troupe of nonsensical bugs upends a familiar Christmas carol. As in the previous books, each spread reveals another gaily wrapped box; inside each box is a new bug surprise, from a "fruitcake bug" grinning in a pear tree and "eight popcorn bugs a-popping." The grand finale--a dozen "angel bugs" dangling from a full-size tabletop ornament--is an eye-popper; aside from that feat, there's not much new here. Ages 2-5. (Oct.) Great Book!

My 14 month old loves this book. It is her new favorite. She sits still while I sing it over and over and over to her. She loves to open each of the 12 gifts to see what will pop out next. This will definitely be read every year around Christmas!

    A Wonderful Children's Book!

I purchased this book for my 10 month old son to help celebrate his 1st Christmas and even though he is not old enough to understand it he really loves listening to me read the book and watching the bugs pop out of it. He enjoys grabbing for the bugs! The illustrations are very colorful and fun which would appeal to very young babies and children. I would recommend this book to any parents with children.
