Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
If you are planning a visit to places like Boston, Chicago, New York or Philadelphia, there is a series of board books that present items that are unique to each city. For Baltimore, it starts with one old sailing ship (the last all-sail ship built by the United States Navy) and it now sits in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Three orioles are not only the state bird of Maryland, they also represent the city's baseball team. Trains can be found in the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum and colorful painted row houses line some of the city's streets. Baltimore now has an aquarium so there is a page with eight different creatures that can be found in or near water. Maryland is famous for crabs and Baltimore offers restaurants that serve this specialty from the Chesapeake Bay. Some of the features are unique while others, like an aquarium, can be found in many major cities. Interesting, but not a required purchase for young ones touring the city. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
