Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"Teach your kids to count to 10 using Minnesota landmarks and attractions. There's even a page of 'conversation starters' to begin fun-talk with your kids." —www.MinnesotaBaby.org
Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Part of the ongoing "Cool Counting Books" series, this board book's focus is on Minnesota. A reader not familiar with the state would be hard pressed to identify the items depicted. The first is a big spoon with a cherry, which is a sculpture located in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Perhaps non-Minnesotans may have recognized it, but this reviewer (who has been to the city several times) did not. Other items included in this count from one to ten are Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox, loons which are the Minnesota state bird, and blueberry muffins (blueberries grow wild in Minnesota). The closing spread includes a reduced image of each of the pages, the Arabic numerals, and identification of what is depicted and a "conversation starter." For residents of the state or others who have a burning desire to know a little bit about it before going on a visit, this book might fit the bill. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
