Overview

Roxie has the best night of her life until the popular kids decide they want to celebrate her birthday in a way Roxie never expects--in her attic, with a gift that's out of this world, and a pact to never tell a living soul what happens next.

Twelve-year-old Roxie wants to be like Adrianne, the popular girl who gets everything she wants--a trampoline, a flock to prowl around the mall with, and most especially invitations to parties. When Roxie invites all the eighth grade peacocks [code word: popular kids] to her first ever thirteenth birthday party on Halloween, they all come and give her a gift that's literally out of this world. Roxie astral projects to Planet Popular where she becomes seventeen instantly and gets everything she's always wanted, but nothing is as it seems. Being a high school peacock is complicated and Roxie will risk everything to be who she thinks she wants to be. Oh yeah, there's Prom, doppelgangers, and lots of bad peacocks too. Includes an excerpt from SHADOW SLAYER, book 2, which releases September 18, 2012. 13 on Halloween is now available as an audiobook on iTunes & Audible.

Editorial Reviews

Abbi Glines
Roxie is one of the most unique characters I've ever read. With her best friend's help Roxie pulls off the birthday party she has always wanted but her parents never let her have. What she hadn't planned on was that it was going to change her world.... literally.Elliott takes the reader into a unique and captivating world where nothing is as it seems and reminds us that reality isn't so bad after all. It's rare I come across a book that can entertain me and my ten year old daughter. Fantastic.
Kate's Read's
Judging by the first book, this will be a series to follow. Roxie is a great character with a language all her own and with problems most of us can relate to. Roxie's unique birthday gift is literally out of this world. Laura has crafted an alternate reality which is both believable and spooky at the same time. Ultimately, the gift will teach her 'popularity' is not all it's cracked up to be. Roxie is a great character with a language all her own and with problems most of us can relate to.

Meet the Author

Laura A. H. Elliott is the author of Winnemucca, a small-town fairy tale which was inspired by her life-long love of a little-known town, Avenal, CA, and her equal love of enchanted teenage road trips. Her latest release, 13 on Halloween, the first book in the Teen Halloween series, is a snarky romp about Roxie's thirteenth birthday wish coming true in hilariously scary ways when she receives a gift that's literally out of this world. Laura's travel and personal essays have been published in The Los Angeles Times and other Southern California newspapers and magazines. She worked as a multimedia designer at The Los Angeles Times and E! Entertainment Television. You can learn more about Laura's books at http://www.authorlaura.com/

    Awesome Read!!!

When I first started reading this book, I wasn't sure that I would be overly crazy about it. Boy was I surprised!!! I had a very hard time putting the book down to do anything, including sleep, even though my eyes kept trying to tell me differently!!!
