Overview

Roxie has the best night of her life until the popular kids decide they want to celebrate her birthday in a way Roxie never expects––in her attic, with a gift that’s out of this world, and a pact to never tell a living soul what happens next.

Twelve-year-old Roxie wants to be like Adrianne, the popular girl who gets everything she wants––a flock to prowl around the mall with; invitations to parties; and for Hayden, the cutest guy in the eighth grade to, you know, notice her. When Roxie invites all the eighth grade peacocks (code word : popular kids) to her first ever thirteenth birthday party on Halloween, they all come and give her a gift that’s literally out of this world. Roxie astral projects to Planet Popular where she becomes seventeen instantly and gets everything she’s always wanted, but nothing is as it seems. Being a high school peacock is complicated and Roxie will risk everything to be who she thinks she wants to be. Oh yeah, there’s Prom, doppelgangers, a mysterious map, and lots of bad peacocks too. BONUS EXCERPT: two chapters of Shadow Slayer, book 2 in The Shadow Series which releases Sept. 2012!

13 on Halloween, (Shadow Series #1) is now available as an audiobook

Editorial Reviews

Roxie is one of the most unique characters I've ever read. With her best friend's help Roxie pulls off the birthday party she has always wanted but her parents never let her have. What she hadn't planned on was that it was going to change her world.... literally.Elliott takes the reader into a unique and captivating world where nothing is as it seems and reminds us that reality isn't so bad after all. It's rare I come across a book that can entertain me and my ten year old daughter. Fantastic.

Judging by the first book, this will be a series to follow. Roxie is a great character with a language all her own and with problems most of us can relate to. Roxie's unique birthday gift is literally out of this world. Laura has crafted an alternate reality which is both believable and spooky at the same time. Ultimately, the gift will teach her 'popularity' is not all it's cracked up to be. Roxie is a great character with a language all her own and with problems most of us can relate to.

Meet the Author

Laura loves writing about enchanted road trips, birthday gifts that are out of this world, and alien romance while eating lots of popcorn. She lives with her hubby, and dog Oso, in their tree house on the coast of central California not far from her two grown daughters who love climbing trees as much as she does. Laura is the author of Winnemucca, a small-town fairy tale inspired by her life-long love of a little-known town, Avenal, CA, and her equal love of enchanted teenage road trips. 13 on Halloween, a hilarious look at a girl who gets a birthday gift that’s literally out of this world, is book 1 in The Shadow Series. Laura’s latest release, Transfer Student, is an intergalactic beauty and the geek sci-fi romance and the first book in the Starjump Series. Shadow Slayer book 2 in The Shadow Series, will release this Fall. For more about Laura A. H. Elliott's books visit Laurasmagicday.wordpress.com.

So far i have read the first few pages and i am seriously considering putting this down and never reading this again. Every time i read a sentence i have to go back to the table of contents and look at Roxie speak I am glad i borrowed this from my mother instead of buying it>: I really hope it gets better. I had high hopes for this book

When I first started reading this book, I wasn't sure that I would be overly crazy about it. Boy was I surprised!!! I had a very hard time putting the book down to do anything, including sleep, even though my eyes kept trying to tell me differently!!!
