13 Original #1 Hits

Editorial Reviews

That leaves four number ones on the table -- among them "Step by Step" -- not to mention a fair number of singles that finished in the Top Ten, including such '70s classics as "Rocky Mountain Music," "Two Dollars in the Jukebox," "We Can't Go on Living Like This," and "Pour Me Another Tequila," all of which raises a simple question: why does this set ...

Licensing restrictions certainly must be the reason why, hurdles that must be difficult to clear if Real Gone winds up with only 13 songs. Overlooking the absences, 13 Original #1 Hits is easily one of the better Eddie Rabbitt collections out there as it does sample from each phase of his career, naturally downplaying the earlier leaner '70s material at the expense of smoother '80s hits, and offering up most of his signature songs ("Suspicions," "Every Which Way But Loose," "I Love a Rainy Night," "Drivin' My Life Away"), two elements that elevate this above the many budget-line collections on the market. It'll do until the right one comes along.
