Overview

Steinberg and Kincheloe (urban education program, City U. of New York Graduate Center) frame the complexities of, and new challenges to, urban schools which educate nearly a third of US students. Nineteen multidisciplinary viewpoints treat issues specific to urban schools not addressed by the Leave No Child Behind Act (2002), e.g., the need to reach many special needs students and socioeconomic imbalances within communities.
