Overview

This set from nostalgia label Gear Fab compiles 23 tracks from the Miami-based garage pop group the Echoe Band, who at one point or other in their brief career were also known as "The Echo," "Echoes," and -- wait -- "The Echoes of Carnaby Street." Along with their final version of "Shadows," their most well-known track, come two alternate takes; these in addition to the three versions of "Wild Mother" that fill out the band's scant output. For '60s band aficionados, there are seven previously unreleased tracks here -- they're mostly covers, with a fuzzed-out organ solo in the middle of a workmanlike "Love Me Two Times" being the obvious highlight. (The band's take on the Beatles "Hello Goodbye," however, is a fabulous template for any young rock group trying like mad to sound just like "the fab four"). 1965-69 may appeal to '60s era completists, but quickly becomes too redundant for any casual fan of the '60s regional garage pop sound. ~ Johnny Loftus
