1969 [Original Soundtrack]

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Erik Crawford
Despite a cast of future Hollywood stars, the film 1969 lacked a certain je ne sais quoi. However, the soundtrack compiled and mastered by iconic mega-producer John Boylan plays like a counterculture greatest-hits package. The summer of 1969 was highlighted by Woodstock, and festival performers Jimi Hendrix, Canned Heat, and Crosby, Stills & Nash all contribute consequential songs to this musical backdrop. Members of the baby boomer generation will certainly be taken back to their youth, as this compilation contains many influential and momentous songs such as "Time of the Season," "Get Together," and "Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In." The one drawback to the soundtrack...

Members of the baby boomer generation will certainly be taken back to their youth, as this compilation contains many influential and momentous songs such as "Time of the Season," "Get Together," and "Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In." The one drawback to the soundtrack is that for the classic rock fan, many of these songs have been played out on radio. There aren't many hidden gems or lost tracks by familiar artists to sink your teeth into. The one exception is the Pretenders' cover of "Windows of the World." Chrissie Hynde and company breathe new life into this Burt Bacharach classic. Overall, this soundtrack does an excellent job of encapsulating a volatile time in America's history through the voices of its generation.
