1984 (For the Love of Big Brother)by Eurythmics
While it is not billed as an Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, this album does contain, as a jacket note indicates, "music derived from Eurythmics." The original score of the motion picture 1984, it was treated as a side project for marketing purposes, not as Eurythmics' full-fledged fourth new studio album. Fair enough. Much of the album is instrumental, and the closest thing to a pop song, "Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four)" (which was a Top Ten hit in the U.K.), like the other vocal numbers, relates to the movie's future fiction theme. As such, the album is substandard if judged as an independent Eurythmics album, adequate if judged as a soundtrack.

1984: For the Love of Big Brother isn't the typical Annie/Dave collaboration (i.e., a balance between Annie's blues and Dave's progressive electronic rock). 1984 is definitely the most thematically consistent Eurythmics effort, with each track building from a common theme. The result is a dreamy soundscape that perfectly matches the otherworldly, melancholy, existential themes from the book. This is my personal favorite Eurythmics effort, although I've been a huge Annie/Dave fan since In the Garden was released in 1981. I'd argue that 1984 doesn't contain the best or most important individual songs, but that it does mark the peak of Annie and Dave's partnership. If you enjoy the dreamier, layered and sampled Eurythmics stuff (such as Jennifer from Sweet Dreams or Aqua from Touch), definitely give this a listen if you can find it.
I have listened to this CD over and over for since its inception. Also watched the movie and found it quite different initially. As years have passed I have learning more and more about the whole concept. My favorite cut on the CD is # 3, For the Love of Big Brother. Another excellent hit is # 1, I Did It Just the Same. I'm head over heels with Annies vocals and yes Aqua is also a favorite.
