Overview

Examines different aspects of Orwell's anti-utopian classic, with a biographical sketch of the author and critical essays on this work.

Editorial Reviews

Mark Schorer
It is probable that no other work of this generation has made us desire freedom more earnestly or loathe tyranny with such fullness. 1984, the most contemporary novel of the year and who knows of now many past and to come, is a great examination into and dramatization of Lord Acton's famous apothegm, " power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrups absolutely. "

Eric Arthur Blair was an important English writer that you probably already know by the pseudonym of George Orwell. He wrote quite a few books, but many believe that his more influential ones were "Animal farm" (1944) and "1984" (1948).In those two books he conveyed, metaphorically and not always obviously, what Soviet Russia meant to him.

    DO NOT BUY THIS VERSION!

I'm so glad I didn't buy this version because I had NO clue it was in Spanish. I'd have been so upset to have wasted money on something I couldn't read. So, if you don't read Spanish fluently, buy a different version, like I did! Just thought I'd give you the heads up. :)

    Couldn't Read This Version

I downloaded the sample of this book and it was in Spanish. Nothing on BN wedsite said it was not in English, except for the small print that gives the publisher. Good thing I didn't buy this one. Read the small print folks:)

    DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK

There is no way to know that this book is in Spanish until after you spend money on it. B&N should not allow trickery like this on their site. Do NOT get this book unless you are fluent in Spanish!

Figured out the problem behind the Spanish thing, the descriptions for the English and Spanish versions are swtiched. The English version cists $9.49 and has a spanish description. Hope that helps!

    Wow this sucks

Doent deserve a one star rating if you cant even read it! I'm taking French in school so I'm screwed!!!
Sucks cause Bowie would have been screwed if he had a Nook. It is puzzling to me how the overview is in English and the book is in Spanish. In case the publisher noticed, we are not in Mexico or Spain! I am dissapointed because now I have a sample book in a foreign language that I have to archive because I don't want to see a cover pic of a book that I can't read. Anyone who agrees with me can find me on youtube MsWorkandplay is my username. Vent on my channel and you'll get a guaranteed response. TOO BAD THE BOOK I WAS ABOUT TO READ WASNT GUARANTEED ENGLISH!!!! X((
