Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Stephen Cook
While Brown's 30-track, 40-track, and even 50-track collections are excellent choices as well, this fine hits package is the best one for Brown neophytes looking for a way in. Covering his prime stretch from the late '50s through the early '70s, 20 All-Time Greatest Hits! includes early R&B milestones "Please, Please, Please", epochal '60s sides "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag, Pt. 1", and latter-day funk classics "Papa Don't Take No Mess, Pt. 1". And that's not to mention such perennials as "Mother Popcorn," "Hot Pants," "Cold Sweat," and "Think." Start your Brown obsession here.

    Nice Hits Package

More James Brown than most casual fans need, but the price is right for the extra cuts. Look up funk in the dictionary -- it says James Brown! The more comprehensive collections would not be needed by most people. Good sound quality here.

    James Brown

This is a nice collection...exactly what I was looking for...just a couple of songs they could have left off otherwise fantastic.

    The Godfather

This man, among all those who pioneered music as we know it today must be given his due place in music history. James Brown brought us a sound of monster syncopation of rhythms we had never ever heard before. Absolutely revolutionary in its scope. And for all those sad folks who did NOT see him in live concert I feel your pain. It was magic. He'd take those old microphone stands, twirl it around and it never hit the floor. All the while those tiny feet were movin'. This album represents quite well that sound and those moves. For old and young fans alike this album is a MUST in your collection of r&b.

    Funky Dance Music

James Brown is the best dance music I have ever heard. His band is very disiplined. His music makes me get up and dance! OW! I am a Woman that listens to classic rock, blues, international music, and drum music.
