Overview

David Allan Coe's 20 Greatest Hits highlights the gruff-voiced outlaw/singer's entries from the late '70s and early '80s. These original Columbia recordings include "You Never Even Called Me by My Name," "The Ride," "Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile," "Willie, Waylon and Me," and "If That Ain't Country." Also featured are Coe's versions of several tunes that he wrote, but were made famous by others: "Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone)" (Tanya Tucker) and "Take This Job and Shove It" (Johnny Paycheck). The one minor complaint about this set is the omission of "She Use to Love Me a Lot" and "Please Come to Boston."
