Overview

The day for change is today and it's more simple than you realize.

Most people sleepwalk through day-to-day life, passively letting time slip away. Unfortunately, the only thing that can usually wake people up to the intensity of life is impending death. But what if it didn't have to be that way? 20,000 Days presents breathtakingly simple strategies and concepts that, once applied, will enable readers to be 100% present and intentional with every passing minute of every day, for the rest of their lives.

The book is designed to be read in under an hour and the effect is immediate. Within each segment are tactics for mastering control for your life; principles such as:

  • Motivation is a myth
  • You only have two choices, yes and no
  • How to conquer rejection forever
  • How BECOMING the problem will SOLVE all your problems
  • Three sentences that will change your life immediately

These timeless principles apply to everyone from the pending graduate to the seasoned business professional; from the time-starved parent to the weary pastor to the restless entrepreneur.

On the 20,000th day of his life, the author sent an email that inspired and reminded a group of people of all ages to live in the moment. This group now includes you.

Publishers Weekly - Audio
Robert D. Smith’s book is the result of an epiphany the author experienced upon realizing that he was 20,000 days old and the subsequent two-day retreat he took to contemplate the direction of his life. Smith suggests tips to help others find purpose and live more responsibly—such as saying “yes” more than “no,” and taking ownership of problems in order to gain the power to fix them. The book is infused with reminders about mortality, but this audio edition never feels dour, in part because of Smith’s enthusiastic narration. While he offers up a clear and compelling reading, Smith performs with such unflagging verve that readers may become distracted. The audiobook would have been better served if Smith had occasionally toned down his performance. A Thomas Nelson hardcover. (Jan.)

This was such a great, fast and much needed read. It really just does take an hour to read. It moves so fast that you want to keep up but then you also want to stop and highlight some areas. So now I just keep it on my coffee table as a reference. I also gave one to a friend.

This book has a great premise and is wonderfully executed. I am constantly struggling with ways to appreciate where I am in the present. I like Robert D's premise of appreciating how many days I have been alive (15,927 today). It adds a perspective that I have been missing.

I just finished this book! I thought since Robert is Andy Andrew's manager, the book would be similar to those that Andy has written. I was wrong! Instead of coming around to the point like Andy the book was straight on, yet told you things for a different view point. THis wasa very enjoyable read. I know Iwill read a second time so that I take it all in! Thank you Robert

Three o'clock is always too late or too early for anything you want to do. Jean-Paul Sartre FRENCH WRITER, PHILOSOPHER 1905 - 1980 Do you spend more time looking back over your life than talking about the future? This is a nice self-help book about making each day count.  The chapters are very short, and some pages are devoted to just a quote.  With around 100 pages, this leads to a very short book that can be conquered in as little as a day or just 5 minutes every day if you like to spread out your reading.  There was a big theme of "live as if you would die tomorrow" and "make each day count."  The themes in this book were great.  However--here comes the however--I do not think this book is worth the $14.99 which it retails for.  While this book boats of being a "quick read," it lacks substantial information to make for a great reference book.  Also, the main ideas found in this book can be found on any self-help site.  This book is fun and well-written, but I do not think it's worth the cost.  That's just my opinion.

A strong message of encouragement Robert D. Smith writes an abridged version of a self-help book to guarantee that everyday counts - making no excuses. He offers his opinions and strategies for success, such as; saying yes to new possibilities, not assuming you are the victim, and never be misled by the hours in a day. Even if you don’t agree with all of Smith’s strategies, 20,000 Days and Counting reads as an expressway to ‘hurry up and decide’ to control your life – specifically the present moment. The book serves as the perfect device to get back on track, or to start creating a track. 20,000 Days and Counting by Robert D. Smith is a short and practical tool one can apply to improve your life - even as you read. Smith practices what he preaches and wastes no time. I’m 21,436 days and counting.

The D in Robert D. Smith obviously stands for Doctor because Robert D. is a doctor of the heart, soul, and mind, and 20,000 Days and Counting is the prescription for paralysis of inaction. It is my privilege to recommend this book to anyone that would like to improve their personal and/or professional relationships with others and to whomever would like to get the most out of their own life.

As a favor, my father asked me to read this book, and since I knew nothing about the background of the author, I was a bit skeptical.  However, after reading about how to live my life more effectively, I am recommending it to many of my peers.  Robert Smith unknowingly encouraged me and taught me how to examine my current life and live with more intentionality.  For that, I am eternally thankful. Read it twice and will read it again! I am getting copies for my kids, family and friends. The power of the information that Robert shares is his incredible insight and perspective. The book is right on target and a very easy read. Most importantly, what Robert shares with us does work and will work for all who read it. We had "Desert First" New Years Eve and had a blast! Thank you Robert D. Smith

This wonderful book put all the things about life that we have or should have learned during our lifetime. I have over 27,000 days and it was a pleasure to find all of these common sense life tools in one concise easy to read guide for life. I would like to think I have practiced many of these life-tools but there were many that I haven't thought about and therefore haven't applied. I plan to work on those. The simplicity yet thoughtfulness of the ideas outlined here should be required reading by every level of our society. In these disturbing, turbulent times the universal application of these life altering ideas would be a start to healing our divided society.

Robert is a truly uniquely skilled behind the scenes business manager. But after reading 20,000 Days And Counting, you will want him front and center stage because of the wisdom in his message. Robert’s zest for life and infectious personality clearly comes through and challenges the reader to make the most their allotted time – and to start now! This book is dynamic and yet so practical. Truly a rare find!

Robert D. Smith is the personification of a young man who is wise beyond the 20000 days and counting that he has been alive. I have known this even since I met him in May of 1980. This new creation will cause the reader to reassess his or her life- past , present, and future ; if implemented in one's own life, it should pave the path to Gods will. Robert D. Smith has channeled his incredible energy into giving readers an optimistic, reassuring, and positive way to look at their life each day. As he plans for his next 20,000 days, he instills his positivity and love of life into each and every page. This is a well-written easy read that should lift any reader out of the doldrums of their life and reflects the true joy the author gains from his personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Thanks, Robert D., for putting a pen to your words of encouragement!

The first day I got my Drivers License almost 30 years ago I was so excited I ran two stop signs. Have you ever gotten a new car and caught yourself spending over the speed limit just because you were so wrapped in the moment of excitement. The thrill of excitement can cause these types actions - at least for me anyway. I preface that by saying I am a 'highlight reader' for sure, yet I caught myself so wrapped with excitement in reading 20,000 DAYS AND COUNTING and forgetting to highlight for the first 30 pages and had to go back and ink up my new book. Robert (D.) Smith's knowledge, wisdom, and excitement for life purpose, success, and hope deliver in this book like none before. He is a straight shooter and this book is no different. Make time for this quick read and it will make you more for your future choices of success and joy. Awesome job Robert D. Can't wait to share with others!

Get out the highlighter....write in the margins.... This book is so well written.  The message is not buried, leaving the reader guessing at the author's philosophy!!  This is going to be required reading for my adult children and the "birthday " gift for all of my family and friends this year!!  Thank you, Robert D. Smith for this recipe of a fuller and more enriched life!!!

I just completed '20,000 Days' and the best way to sum it up is that it is a 'swift kick in the behind.'  I am actually currently working towards a specific professional goal and I was doing a 'coin toss' as to whether to work on my project or sit down to begin reading '20,000 Days'.  I chose the latter and DID finish it within an hour.  My take-aways from the book are this: Robert D. Smith is thoroughly entertaining and endearing and wraps your attention around his little finger. He suggests in the beginning of the book to grab a highlighter and so I did.  I didn't have to highlight a lot of places to make me feel my focus become sharper and my intensity become deeper.  I actually ended the book feeling as if I want to achieve this current goal as much for Mr. Smith as for myself! I know in my core that I will read this book over and over again until I reach this goal and then again when I form the next.  Count up! Jennifer – 16025 days old today

I have a personal knowledge of everything Robert says about his life since he has been in mine since day one. His youthful enthusiasm, ability to make work fun and desire to make something of himself prove his methods have definately worked for him as well as many others. His rise to the top of his field has been steady and most certainly inspirational to those of us within his circle. His methods are simple and make you know you too can do whatever is important for you to accomplish in your life. His delivery is exuberant and joyful which sums up his entire life ... JOYFUL for the chance to serve and help. His faith is contagious and I welcome you to share his knowledge and help. You won't regret it!
