Overview

Written when landing on the moon was still a dream, made into one of the most influential films of our century, brilliant, compulsive, prophetic, 2001: A Space Odyssey tackles the enduring theme of man's place in the universe. Including a new Foreword by the author and a fascinating new introduction by Stephen Baxter, this special edition is an essential addition to every SF reader's collection.

On the moon an enigma is uncovered. So great are the implications that, for the first time, men are sent out deep into the solar system. But, before they can reach their destination, things begin to go wrong. Horribly wrong.

I've never seen the Stanley Kubrick movie before, then only recently, I caught the last 15 minutes of it and was captivated. Seeing as how the books are always better than the movie, I decided to read it first and then i'll rent the movie. What a Great Read! I really enjoyed this book. It definitely gave me some understanding as to what Kubrick was trying to portray and he did a great job, but there's definitely more understanding of what happened in the book. If you like Sci-Fi or classics, or even a good story, read it. It's quite awesome.

What I like about this book is how the author fit a lpt of sci-fi space travel and the deep description of words.

If you've never seen the movie, then this book won't make much sense. But having seen the movie, the book is much better. It clarifies and adds a lot to what you already know. I have already bought the sequel! Arthur C Clarke is a genius and a fantastic writer.

The electronic version of 2001 offers no sample text to speak of. The novel itself does not begin until two pages before the sample text ends. I am of the opinion that all ebooks should provide sample copy of half of the total book...and I never buy ebooks that I cannot get a feel for through the sample provided. Two pages is not anywhere near enough to judge a potential purchase. I recommend you do not buy this ebook because of this one item...the behavior of the publisher...not the content of the novel.
