Meet the Author

Sandra Boynton

Sandra Boynton is a popular American cartoonist, writer, and songwriter. Since 1974, Boynton has written and illustrated over forty children’s books and seven general audience books, including four New York Times bestsellers. More than 60 million of her books have been sold—“mostly to friends and family,” she says. She has also written and produced five albums of award-winning children’s music. Three of her albums have been certified Gold, and Philadelphia Chickens, nominated for a Grammy, is nearing Platinum. She lives with her family on a farm in New England.

Biography

In the 1980s, it was hard to enter a gift shop without seeing Sandra Boynton's name. Her humorous pen-and-watercolor cartoons of hippos, ewes, and her famous turkeys (you know, symbolizing the human ones in life who can get you down) were emblazoned on cards, mugs, stickers, stationery...and of course, her wonderful, wacky books, the first of which was 1979's Hippos Go Berserk! .

Boynton began her career as a greeting card illustrator with aspirations of theater directing; but having a family changed her focus, and she began devoting herself full-time to art. Her board books, filled with goofy animal illustrations and rhyming verse, are toddler staples. But their appeal to adults is undeniable, and she has also written a number of humor books for the general public.

Given the rhythmic, buoyant style of her writing, it was only natural that Boynton would become involved in companion music to her books. From the '90s on, several of her titles included accompanying CDs, culminating in the 2002 release of Philadelphia Chickens, a CD-book extravaganza written with composer Michael Ford and featuring musical performances by several high-profile stars.

Who knows what lies ahead for this irrepressible force of nature? If there's one thing Sandra Boynton has proved in the course of her remarkably diverse career, it's that she's not lost her capacity to surprise us. (Thank heavens!)

    I love it!

I have been buying this calendar year after year since 2003. I love it! It's a great way to keep track of everybody's schedule. I tried to change last year and had to go back and run to get it before I couldn't find it.

    All In the Family!

As long as my hubby remembers to write in his schedule on this calendar, it is no fail. It is just perfect for a family of four. I hang it on the fridge and check it twice daily to be sure I'm on track. I have a palm pilot and a computer reminder but it is this calendar that I rely on the most~and that we all check regularly!

    Karen, mother of three

I have been using this calendar for years and have given it to friends and then they are hooked as well. This is the best organization system I have found. It hangs on the wall, at the door on the way out of the house. Everyone can see what they have going on that day. We love the fact that everyone has their own space. If it is not on the calendar it is not happening!

The BEST calendar for a busy family!

I'm the mom of 5 children and I've been getting this calendar year after year. When other moms ask how I keep all the activities and appointments straight, I always recommend this calendar. It is an invaluable tool for any busy household. The best part is, it's easy for each child to look at their own column and know their schedule as well as each others. It's great for Dad too so he can see what everyone is doing (maybe even help out!)

    A Lifesaver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I purchased the 2005-2006 edition and it has saved our family. No more searching for little appointment cards or scraps of paper. I sit down at the beginning of the month with different colored permanent markers and in a matter of minutes my month is laid out in front of me. We hang the calendar in the kitchen and we're set. I can't wait to get the 2006-2007 edition.
