American Heritage Dictionary Calendar could be more enriching!

Each year new vocabulary words are added to the English lexicon and this was what I expected in my purchase. Very few of the "word-a-day" entries until now enriched my vocabulary since I pursue words that are descriptive, literal, and convey human emotions. Examples of the "high English words" I relish are the book reviews, editorials, and arts sections found in the Sunday New York Times newspaper that use a profusion of educated words. Should I, as an aging male Baby Boomer, ever embark again in writing for a newspaper (after a 33 year hiatus), I would do so using a richer vocabulary than the more simplistic - but nevertheless effective writing style found in Newsweek and Time magazines. However, the A.H. Dictionary Calendar does have intrinsic value in familiarizing the average reader with words that usually find their way into our everyday readings whether they be fiction or nonfiction.
