Meet the Author

Sandra Boynton

Sandra Boynton is a popular American cartoonist, writer, and songwriter. Since 1974, Boynton has written and illustrated over forty children’s books and seven general audience books, including four New York Times bestsellers. More than 60 million of her books have been sold—“mostly to friends and family,” she says. She has also written and produced five albums of award-winning children’s music. Three of her albums have been certified Gold, and Philadelphia Chickens, nominated for a Grammy, is nearing Platinum. She lives with her family on a farm in New England.

Biography

In the 1980s, it was hard to enter a gift shop without seeing Sandra Boynton's name. Her humorous pen-and-watercolor cartoons of hippos, ewes, and her famous turkeys (you know, symbolizing the human ones in life who can get you down) were emblazoned on cards, mugs, stickers, stationery...and of course, her wonderful, wacky books, the first of which was 1979's Hippos Go Berserk! .

Boynton began her career as a greeting card illustrator with aspirations of theater directing; but having a family changed her focus, and she began devoting herself full-time to art. Her board books, filled with goofy animal illustrations and rhyming verse, are toddler staples. But their appeal to adults is undeniable, and she has also written a number of humor books for the general public.

Given the rhythmic, buoyant style of her writing, it was only natural that Boynton would become involved in companion music to her books. From the '90s on, several of her titles included accompanying CDs, culminating in the 2002 release of Philadelphia Chickens, a CD-book extravaganza written with composer Michael Ford and featuring musical performances by several high-profile stars.

Who knows what lies ahead for this irrepressible force of nature? If there's one thing Sandra Boynton has proved in the course of her remarkably diverse career, it's that she's not lost her capacity to surprise us. (Thank heavens!)

    EXCELLENT TOOL FOR MOM'S

I love it, I love it, I love it.,,, All mom's should buy one to be more organized and keep everything in order. I have 3 kids and everyday is something different going on. I even have room to put my own appointments and things to do.... Great! Try it.

    Get organized and save time

This calendar is a must have for any active family. Everyone is responsible to keep track of their own schedules. I fill all the activities in and my kids organize their homework and play dates accordingly. I no longer have to answer the question, 'Mom, can I have a play date afterschool today?' My response is, 'I don't know can you?' It forces them to be responsible for themselves.

Great Calendar, but downside is it needs a lot of room to hang open

Our 5 member family uses the calendar to it's fullest extent. Love the fact that each person can have their own 'space'. Make sure you have a spot to hang as this calendar needs to be hung open to see all of the days of the month. I do not like the waste of the extra months, wish there was a 12 month version, but continue to purchase as this is the best calendar I've found for a busy family.

    Great Organizer

I discovered the usefulness of this calendar three years ago. I love the fact that it can display our family's agenda for the entire month 'without having to flip pages' on one page. This calendar is now a must-have in my house.

    Repeat Buyer...

This is my fifth year buying this calendar. Now I buy them for my friends too! It makes organizing activities for each family member so easy because everybody has thier own column all on the same page. See everybody's schedule at a glance.

    Hard calander to work with

You would think that a Mom would make a calander that is easy to use! NOT THE CASE HERE! It is so difficult to use a calander that the days are vertical. It is confusing and frustrating! I have spoken to other Mom's who used it (unfortunately after I purchased it) and have found the same response from them. Most of them just threw it away! When you look at a calander, you want to see the month. With this, you have to constantly look to see what day it is (M,T,W etc) and then where it falls on the month. It is so frustrating when you are trying to plan something with other Moms. I ended up throwing it away after 1 1/2 frustrating months. I did give it a try, I HATED IT!! Will never purchase again!!

    mom's calendar not so usful

I love Sandra Boynton and have several of her books I read to my children ages 1 and 3. Although the calendar is well illustrated and cute, I do not like the layout as I am used to a traditional box grid. I bought it because it was cheap, but I would have been better off getting a different one. It may be better for moms with older children who have lots going on and need to jot down each child's activities per column.

My Favorite Calendar for Busy Moms!!

I have been using this calendar for 4 years now. I continue to use it because it has a separate block for each day of the year for each of my 5 family members. Other wall calendars never had large enough squares for each date for me to fit up to 5 people's activities, appts., etc. This calendar provides an ample size square for each member of the family. It comes with tons of stickers to help you mark special dates or appts. too. It has really helped to keep our family organized. My husband has even started adding things to his square to keep me posted on what is coming up for him. The only thing I would like to see in the future added is a slip pocket on the back to hold papers or appt. cards in.

    Nice calendar for children

I was looking for a calendar on which two of us could write upcoming events and also file monthly receipts. This calendar is cute, with lots of reminder stickers, but I didn't like the vertical listing of dates and it didn't contain monthly receipt pockets. There are columns to contain 5 people's schedules, but not enough room in each day's cell to write multiple events. Because of its colorful graphics, kids might like this calendar to list their schedules. Adults should look elsewhere.

    Great for Busy Families!

There is some getting used to reading this calendar, unlike a traditional one, this one reads with the date/day in one column. Having a place to write for up to five family members is a great way to help stay organized. I have been using this calendar for four years and love it!

Keep track of every person in the family

Wonderful calendar that provides a space for keeping track of a family of 5 or less. Plenty of room to write multiple appointments. The illustrations and whimsical, bright and cheery. The stickers provided are bountiful and also cute. I am typically not very organized but this calendar makes it easy even for those that find it difficult to keep track of acitivies and stay organized. The addition of a pocket is also great to store important school flyers and stickers. A definite must for any busy family w/ a multitude of activities.

5 years in a row & still loving this calendar

5 years ago I bought myself this calendar on clearance. At first I struggled with it - the format is so different from a 'normal' calendar. Once I got used to the format of this calendar I fell in love with it and have used it every year since. I like all the space available for each family member. This calendar helps me clearly see who needs to go where when (but not why). I have been a HUGE fan of Sandra Boynton's characters and artwork for 16 years. Her funny characters and sense of humor are ever present in this calendar. My preference is still to buy it after the first of the year on clearance but that's because I'm cheap :-)

    Review for Mom's calendar

The calendar is very cute. I liked the cartoon-ish type pages of decoration. However, the stickers were so cheap they weren't cut all the way through so you could not even use one of the sheets of stickers entirely because they would tear. It could have been a one in a million thing though. I had their calendar a couple of years ago without a problem. There are only 4 spaces on the calendar for people other than the mom so for really large families I wouldn't suggest it.

Can't live without one each year

Every year at the end of December I purchase one of these calenders for the coming year ahead. It is easy to use, and having a seperate column for everyone really helps organize life, especially with multiple kids in multiple sports and activities. It helps illustrate when both parents have to help with driving! I tried another Mom's calender one year and the colums were set up horizontilly, which is harder to fill out. This calender lays out vertically, and again, I can't say enough how much that helps organize our lives. The stickers that come along with the calender help make your scheduled events stand out when placed on the calender.

A great calendar for any busy home

This calendar is terrific. It really helps keep everyone's schedules in order and it is great to just look in someone's column to see what he has coming up or where Mom will need to be to get everyone where they will need to go! Indispensible!

    All the W's except Why

Keeps you laughing through all of the overbooking and double booking snafus in your life. Nifty special event and appointment stickers for the visually inclined. Could use a little more room in the boxes if you have large handwriting. Only room for four other family member schedules other than Mom, so if you have too many in your brood, well, someone gets left out...

    Calendar

I really loved this as a busy mom. I was able to put all my family names on the top and keep track of EVERYONE! The only downside to the calendar was the stickers that accompany it. They are hard to get off of the sticker sheet and several I have broke in half, etc. I would recommend a change in how they do this part of the calendar but overall, excellent!

    Makes Mommy's Job Easier!

The first time I got this calendar as a gift from my own mother. This is my second year buying it because it's so darned cute and simple to use. I had to order it online because it was sold out at the stores nearby! It's the sort of calendar I need to make my week go by easier. :)
