All Music Guide - Aaron Latham
With a title like The Christmas Collection: The Best of Amy Grant, it might be presumed that this disc would contain selections from all three of Grant's prior holiday releases. That assumption would be incorrect as Universal, trying to gain some mileage out of their back catalog, has simply pasted their 20th Century Masters series logo on a repackaged version of Grant's 1992 A&M holiday album, Home for Christmas. However, despite Universal's deceptive marketing ploy, it should not deter anyone from listening to this lovely collection if it happened to be missed in its first incarnation. Since she has never been a forceful vocalist, these lushly orchestrated Christmas ...

However, despite Universal's deceptive marketing ploy, it should not deter anyone from listening to this lovely collection if it happened to be missed in its first incarnation. Since she has never been a forceful vocalist, these lushly orchestrated Christmas standards and originals are a perfect setting for Grant's soft tones. If some of the standards fall a bit flat, like the lifeless "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," she makes up for the missteps with two originals she co-wrote: the stark "Breath of Heaven Mary's Song" and the quietly affecting "Emmanuel, God With Us." Although not in the same league as Grant's classic A Christmas Album, this collection can still provide a warm atmosphere on those chilly winter evenings.

    just amazing

I'm not usually into Christmas albums. But this album is great, it just relaxes you and gives a lot of inspiration.

Christmas music as it should be.

This has to be the most amazing Christmas cd I own. I look froward to pulling it out every year - year after year beacause it's so instrumentally spectacular and the songs on the cd are just lovely. I've replaced it a couple of times. I'm so confident it's a universally appealing compilation I've given it as gifts to many people I love. Here are some of my favorite tracks: "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" sounds as if Amy Grant is as jubilant about Christmas as anyone could be! "Joy To The World/For Unto Us A Child Is Born" is a resounding buoyant combination. "Breath Of Heaven (Mary's Song)" is a song I look forward to every year because it captures the meaning of Christmas, the birth of a special baby and His mother's expectant thoughts. "Grown-up Christmas List" is probably my favorite modern Christmas song. I am so touched by the emotions of the lyrics and melody. The sentimentality is incredibly moving. This song alone is worth the cost of the cd. "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" is still a fun and upbeat to hear, just don't carry egg nog around while listening - you'll spill it. "Emmanuel, God With Us", "Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring (Instrumental)" are both goosebump-producing-musical "abundanza". If you really want a Christmas cd that "gets" the respect and wonderment of Christmas and yet has a party mood for the season this is THE cd for you.

    A Must Have Christmas CD

I am a big fan of Amy Grant and I love Christmas and there isn't a Christmas CD that I cherish more. The combination of artist and songs is a sure fire WINNER! Amy sings a wide range of Holiday songs sure to delete everyone. Each song is a favorite of mine however the Breath of Heaven and the Grown-Up Christmas List are close to my heart. A must have to complete a wonderful Holiday. Everyone I know who has this CD says the same. Don't miss a CD you will always want to hear and by far Amy's best Christmas Selection!
