20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Billy Stewart

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Andrew Hamilton
The omission of Stewart's heartfelt "How Nice It Is," one of his seven best singles, is the only sore spot. Compilers always overlook the tension-filled ballad on these short collections 11 songs. Stewart's six other gems -- "Strange Feeling," "I Do Love You," "Sitting in the Park," "Cross My Heart," "Summertime," and "Secret Love" -- sparkle like diamonds with their digitally remastered makeovers. Also solid are "Everyday I Have the Blues," with vocal accompaniment by the Dells, and "Reap What You Sow," featuring the Jewels.

    nostalgic rythym and blues rendezvous

Recently, I read an article about Elvis Costello that mentioned Billy Stewart's rendition of Summertime. This brought back memories from the late 1960's when I was in my undergraduate studies and attended Afro-American parties on campus and on a neighboring military base. Billy Stewart didn't fit the Motown image that was succesfully marketed to the general public. I was fortunate to have been accepted at these parties. Everyone there danced to Billy Stewart. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to all his hits again. Thanks.
