20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Keith Hampshire

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Steve Leggett
Although born in Britain, Keith Hampshire had his greatest musical success as a recording artist in Canada, where he had a string of Top Ten hits for A&M in the early '70s, including "Daytime, Night-Time" originally cut by Manfred Mann as "Each and Every Day", a cover of Cat Stevens' "The First Cut Is the Deepest," and "Big Time Operator," all featuring over the top arrangements heavy with massed strings, choirs, and horns. This brief set has all the essentials, including the above songs plus "Nobody's Child," "I Can't Wait Too Long," and the striking "Ginger Man" from Variations, his 1981 comeback album for Freedom Records. Energetic and dramatic, Hampshire's approach may not stir everyone's tea, but he doesn't mess around and commendably goes for broke on every cut.
