Overview

If you're craving an R&B album devoid of bump-'n'-grind tracks and playa-hatin' anthems, then Kevon Edmonds's 24-7 is just what the love doctor ordered. Throughout the disc, the former After 7 frontman uses his smooth alto to tackle honest, urgent odes to the spiritual, nurturing, and often confusing powers of amore. The album's romantic tone is set by the title track, on which Edmonds serenades his paramour to sweet surrender with lyrics like "Baby with you I am secure, my life is in your hands." What anchors this dynamic album is the presence of Babyface, who cowrote five songs and lends his tender vocals to the juicy ballad "A Girl Like You" (Melvin, the eldest Edmonds brother, also contributes background vocals to this track). But 24-7 isn't strictly a mellow affair. Up-tempo tracks like "Anyway" and "Tell Me" supply funky bass lines that will keep the dance floors bouncing. Whether you're grooving or cooing, Edmonds makes you eager to fall in love time and time again. Deanna L. Martin

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Kevon Edmonds' solo debut 24-7 proves that he can make it on his own, apart from After 7, even if it isn't a full-fledged knockout. Like his brother Babyface, Edmonds has an appealingly sophisticated spin on contemporary urban soul, never pushing the music too hard and keeping everything smooth and suave. This elegant approach carries him through stretches where the material isn't really distinguished, but fortunately, there aren't too many weak moments on the album. At times, the music can seem a little samey, but at its best -- the opening trilogy of "Never Love You," "Love Will Be Waiting," and "24/7," plus the Babyface duet "A Girl Like You" -- 24/7 showcases Edmonds as a sweetly ingratiating urban crooner.

I was a fan of After 7 but his CD gave me quite a shock. I wasn't expecting much from Kevon Edmonds but he quickly proved me wrong. This is a CD that you can put on from beginning to end and just let play. Whether you are in love, out of love, or trying to find love, there is a song for you on the CD. This is a great, great, great, debut. I highly recommend it! I expecially liked 24/7, Anyway, How Often, No Love, and A Girl Like You. I can't wait for the see what Mr. Edmonds has in store next!

Man, this has been the most touching album to me and my girl. She likes the track that goes like this ''and I cry...... coz am... so inlove.....'' I think that is the most touching song to me.

I had no doubt that Kevon's debut CD 24/7 would be a great CD. There is something about Kevon's voice that I have taken notice to since his After 7 days. That voice of his makes you want to fall in love. I listen to this CD every morning at work - ''When I'm With You'', ''A Girl Like You'', and ''24/7'' are just a few of my favorites. After seeing Kevon in the musical play - ''Love Makes Things Happen'', I was able to see how very talented he really is and I can't wait to see what he has in store for us next.

I was never a big fan of After 7 but after hearing Kevon's CD I went out and brought every CD After 7 ever made. This CD is awesome and I can go on and on. This man should be a superstar, his voice is great and so pure sounding. I saw the play Love makes things happen and I know there are no electronic tricks with the sound of his voice. Buy it!!!
