Overview

In a crowded pop music marketplace, Adele stands alone. Her lovely contralto voice, unblemished by Autotune or vocal effects, and her commitment to soulful material instead of club-influenced dance music, make her one of a kind. In particular, her appoggiatura (meaning "grace note") vocal embellishments create natural tension in her music that most other pop singers can't match, and when you combine that with her vocal range, which is exceedingly rare in pop music, you get something very special. What's more, she's working with a great team of collaborators on her new project: songwriter/OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder, former Sessions bassist Tobias Jesso Jr., and producer/Gnarls Barkley member Danger Mouse are all confirmed contributors to 25.

Editorial Reviews

Rolling Stone
Quotes from Adele's Rolling Stone magazine cover story:

"I always feel like this is going to turn out to be a hidden-camera show, and someone is going to send me back to Tottenham."

"I felt like I'd lost control. The bigger your career gets, the smaller your life gets."

"It would be a bit tragic to do another heartbreak album - not even tragic, a cliche! Even if I really was heartbroken."
Mojo - Victoria Segal
She has measured out her life with coffee-table tunes: after 19 and 21, here is 25, another milestone in the now 27-year-old Adele Adkins MBE’s successfully packaged emotional development. Never one for youthful giddiness, her third album is strikingly authoritative, tending towards the imperious even when expressing vulnerability yet rarely coming over as soullessly efficient. The regal piano balladry is forgettable - Remedy, for example - but there’s a welcome lighter touch on the whippy Send My Love (To Your New Lover), a bitter little song that cuts the prettiness of Wyclef’s Gone Till November with a dose of romantic bile. I Miss You, the most left-of-centre track, updates her classic collection with echoing vocals and pattering beats, while River Lea, a rolling churchy tribute to her neighbourhood produced by Danger Mouse, adds a pleasing geographical specificity to these big, universal songs.
For Adele, 25 looks like being another very good year.

Agree with the previous reviewer. Nothing great but listenable. I got the vinyl but disappointed with the pressing.

Adele 25 is yet another exquisite CD by the songstress. Adele's powerful, soulful voice never disappoints. In this work, the songs are not as sad as her previous CD. I must say that this is the second CD I bought from Barnes&Noble which did not offer the bonus tracks, as the case was with Hozier. I didn't realize it until I got home. I will not buy anymore CDs from B&N unless they change that. It is misleading advertising. iTunes does not have Adele's bonus tracks either.

I got this album NEW 3 times... From two stores, I may add. While the music is what I expected and I was mostly pleased with the sound of the album itself I had to take all three copies back to the store. All three copies and a highly audible skip or skips in different tracks right out of the sleeve. I cleaned the albums (each a few times), clean and re-level the table, and tried a few players as well. I know with vinyl you may get some nifty pop and they come with some inconsistencies but this was more than that. After the third try I gave up.

After purchasing Adele's last album, I was really looking forward to this much-anticipated album. I played the entire album, all the way through. I know that sad love songs do well and resonate with a lot of people, but this album surpasses expectations! It's "music to slit your wrists by"...REALLY down...except for the last song. Maybe she thought after all that sadness that she'd leave on a high note. I can't say that I disliked it, but I won't be listening to it as much as I thought. If you need a good cry, this music will definately help you with that!
