Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
This is a book of patterns for the beginning knitter who has already learned to cast on, to knit, and to purl. Moving from that point, Ham guides the new knitter through a variety of sweaters, vests, jackets, and cardigans--all designed to ease the beginner into mastery of the craft. Several of the garments have no set patterns. Instead, the author explains how to create patterns by measuring a favorite sweater. All-important schematics are included, as are hints for design variations and embellishments. Experienced knitters will be drawn to the patchwork jacket and many other designs employing interesting specialty yarns. Enthusiastically recommended for knitting collections. Makes you want to start/keep knitting

This book will appeal to knitters with all levels of expertise. It's great for beginners who want to make something to wear NOW. It's also great for that expert knitter who needs a break to knit up something beautiful and simple. Easy to follow directions and patterns. Highly recommend.

Gorgeous, fashionable sweaters that even I can knit!

I have been trying to teach myself to knit for almost two decades, but after learning the basic knit and purl stitches, I had become too discouraged to knit anything, because all of the knitting patterns I found were either too complicated or for projects that were too ugly to waste my time on. This book changed all that and I finally knit my first sweater and it actually looks nice and fashionable! These sweaters actually are gorgeous and wearable. The author includes a lot of ideas for variations, so that you can knit many more than 25 different sweaters from it. Included are patterns for women and children, but unfortunately none for men. I hope Ms. Ham does a follow up book that includes men's patterns. I know I would be the first in line to purchase it. This is a perfect SECOND knitting book for the beginning knitter, since it is primarily a pattern book and does not give detailed instructions on casting on/off, knitting. purling, increasing and decreasing.
