A fine text for beginning singers of Italian repertoire. IPA transcriptions, word-by-word translations, modern language precis are all invaluable, along with the background information on the musical and poetic sources for each song or aria. The volume is inexpensive, and can also be purchased with a recording. My only negative comment is that the accompaniments tend to be a tad boring and lacking in creative realizations of the original figured bass for some of the pieces.
