"Carman has not only created a beguiling building but populated it with a sympathetic company of oddfellows, plus a few nefarious creatures...Readers will come to feel totally invested in the hotel, just as they will come to love Leo" -- KIRKUS REVIEWS
"Carman delivers a madcap mystery reminiscent of Roald Dahl and Ellen Raskin, complete with bizarre inventions, a mystery involving a missing billionaire and his fortune, and even a crazy elevator or two." -- PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
"This story will tug at the imagination of any readers with a healthy appetite for adventure." -- SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL
"Mixing mystery; colorfully drawn, offbeat characters; and some Willy Wonkaevoking flourishes, this series starter offers an absorbing, entertaining read with an appealing and sympathetic protagonist. Fantastical inventions and humorous scenarios abound, but the story also sensitively explores themes of loss, healing, and family." -- BOOKLIST

Fantastic, creative, wonderfully descriptive and suspenseful!!! Leo and his friend Remi manage the wacky Whippet Hotel. The hotel, with its many floors of great fun, also contains mystery floors that Leo and Remi have not yet discovered. When Merganzer Whippet, the owner of the Whippet Hotel, discovers that the Whippet Hotel is dangerously in debt because "taxes have not been paid," he enlists the help of Leo & Remi to help "save the hotel." He gives them a list of items they must find and put in place before the deadline. Along the way, Leo & Remi encounter puzzles that need solving and come across floors within the hotel they didn't know existed.
"3 Below" is the second in the "Floors" series by Patrick Carman and is absolutely a great book. Targeted for the reading age of 4th-6th graders. It is a fantasy book without "the dark side" that comes with so many adventure/fantasy books. With all its very descriptive narratives, it helps the reader visualize the hotel and its wacky characters and mysterious floors easily. (rev. P.Howard)

This trilogy is an amazing read. 9-12 yearolds love it! It's a wonderful story about a boy, Leo, and his all-time best buddy, Remi, who work together to help solve mysteries and puzzles. They live in a hotel, The Whippet, and are the maintenance and door men. Leo owns the hotel and access to every one of it's many secrets. Join Leo and Remi as they take the ride of their life, without leaving the safety of the hotel, where they encounter enemies such as Ms.Sparks and friends like Blop the Robot who either despise or support them. Was this review helpful?
