Buckle up! The highly successful 3-D Thrillers series is getting a tune-up.

With 3-D THRILLERS: SPEED MACHINES AND MONSTER TRUCKS, young readers will be in for a whole new ride. Just like the previous books in the series, SPEED MACHINES AND MONSTER TRUCKS comes with customized 3-D glasses and is packed with dozens of awesome photos that will jump off the page. Kids will get to learn about their favorite fast vehicles and larger-than-life trucks. They'll learn about the fastest car on the planet, the Thrust SSC, which travels at 763 mph! And they'll be shocked when they discover that the longest monster truck jump ever was a massive 202 feet over a 727 airplane! These speed machines and monster trucks are bigger and badder now that they're in 3-D!

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Part of the "3-D thrillers!" series, this early reader is packaged with a set of 3-D glasses. However, if the glasses are lost, the text is still quite readable and many of the images do not have a 3-D effect. It starts out describing various types of automobile racers—Formula 1, which are probably the most high profile cars of all motorsports, NASCAR racing, and dragsters. Along with actual car racing other sports which include powerful vehicles demonstrate their prowess pulling weights as well as mud racing. The text introduces monster trucks which have wheels almost as large as and in some cases larger than a single individual. If these sports are not enough for you, then there is the wrecking of cars by larger heavier cars which either stomp on or try to jump over other cars. The text details what these cars look like underneath the hood what the wheels are really like as well as special kinds of monster vehicles which include tractors, trucks and earthmovers. A monster truck show, which is also called a jamboree, combines jumps, crashes, dirt, and fire in a series of events. In addition to the four-wheel vehicles the book describes two wheel vehicles and notes that motorcycles and drag bikes are among the most popular. The text concludes by identifying other speed vehicles including bullet trains, powerboats, planes, and space probes. Readers are also encouraged to think about the future and what new speed machines might look like. There is a lot of information packed into this reader and it lends itself to more than one reading.
