    more from this reviewer

    No Taste!

I always stand by my moto: if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all. But, I'm a Big Fan of Rachel Ray's shows - I love how organized she is, and how she teaches little tricks with food, and the timing of when to start cooking what - it's amazing! Therefore, I have too leave a review. I've made some of her meals, because I love to cook, and, unfortunately, they were ALL BLAND. The tastes just don't come together! Like you make it once, but won't make it ever again! I'm surprised she has a section on her website regarding spice substitution. I believe that if you know the taste of each spice, each vegetable, each fruit, and food in general, really well, you would know what to combine with what and it would taste marvelous. Anyone, who knows how to cook or not, can make a meal in 30 minutes, for example cooking up some pasta, but if you add the wrong ingredients you will not remember that pasta's tast at all, it would be bland. To be a great chef, I believe, it requires a skill on how to pair Foods together. Sorry Rach!

    Favorite Cookbook

This is by far the best cookbook I own. Every time I have someone over, I make something from this, and I've never had someone who didn't rave. My personal favorites include the Cheesy Orzo and the Herb and Goat Cheese Toasts. There's also this pecan-encrusted chicken with maple barbeque dressing. There's pictures of some of the dishes, and it never gets old.

If I can cook, anyone can

I have to admit that lately I have been cooking more then usual and with the help of a few books, it is a snap. This book is a gift. Easy and very detailed, enough for me to be able to cook and not spend the whole day in the kitchen. Great book and great gift for someone.

    Recipes for the Cooking Challenged

What I love about this cookbook is that the recipes are organized as meals. So there is a main dish, then a dessert, drink, appetizer, or side dish to go with it. I usually end up making two of the three things and it is more than enough food. The hardest thing for me has been figuring out what to cook with what and she takes the guesswork out of it. Her recipes have helped me eat way more vegetables and cook with more olive oil and less butter. I highly recommend this cookbook to someone who is not an expert chef and who wants meals that are tasty and easy to make.

    Rachel Rocks!!

I absolutely love her books and her recipes! The thing I love most is that she is a regular girl, with a regular job, and she makes regular meals. I love it! With lives as busy as they are, who has time to take 2 hours to make dinner during the week (even on the weekends!) Her meals are real, fun, and really tasty and when I want something healthy (sometimes) versus take out, I 'take out' her cookbooks and whip something up. It takes just as long to make her meals as it does to order and get a pizza delivered. May favorite thing is that her meals are real. I watched Martha the other day after her show and she was frosting a wooden board to be able to display a 2 foot cake. Who has time to make a 2 foot cake, find a wooden board to display it, while, making th board look pretty. Not me. 30 Minute Meals are the best and this cookbook is her best yet!

    Get In and Out

I love this book. As a working mom I can plan ahead and get in and out of the kitchen in no time flat - that's what I'm talking about!

    Okay, She Annoys Me But....

I can't stand that 'I wanna be your pal' thing she does and some of her recipes and food handling is SCARY. But I admit that I bought this and I use it in a pinch. Sometimes I adapt the recipes, using real food like fresh tomatoes instead of canned or making a real cake (which takes about 7 minutes longer than stirring up a cake mix, FYI.)This is NOT any great culinary offering but you don't always have time...

The show is better than the book

I watch the show all the time and get the recipes online. I was so excited about the book. But in the introduction, she said that she tried to use ingredients that are readily available and that even 'kids' can cook-- I'm 18 and live in a small southern town. I can't get good Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, or pancetta, or all these flavored liqueurs. They're just not available to me. I guess the food is good, but I don't know, since so many of her 'readily available' ingredients aren't so available when you leave New York City.

    Great Book !

I am a fan of Rachael Ray's show on Food Network, and purchased 2 of her cookbooks. This book is organized in such a way that you can take a quick look for ingredients needed for the whole meal at a glance. It's fantastic. The only downfall, is that I find most of the meals take me more like an hour to make, not 30 minutes.

Rachael Ray has made me love to cook!

I never used to cook, but Rachael Ray's no muss, no fuss cooking style makes it fun. The book has recipes normal people eat with ingredients you can get in a regular grocery store. Plus her cooking style is such that you learn to experiment on your own. I highly recommend it.

    Bad Book

I was very disappointed with my purchase of this book. Rachael Ray attempts to sound professional and knowledgable. Do not buy this book unless you are already an intuitive chef. Her recipes DEFINITELY need to be doctored and flavored up. They tend to be bland. Her overuse of EVOO is a bit extreme. While EVOO is healthy. I believe she confuses viewers. Too much is NOT healthy. Moderation is key. There are many more delightful cookbooks out there. Bottom line: Find something else!

    I'M IMPRESSED, RACHAEL!

There are many 'little' things that go in to making this book easy to follow and fun. From Rachael's personal anecdotes, to the highlighted ingredient 'keywords' in each recipe that help me figure out what I'll need at a glance (she also uses many ingredients over in different ways to help me build a pantry and keep $$$ down!) I love to make gourmet, restaurant style food and have taken on some difficult cooking projects in the past. I'm now headed back to work part-time with two small children and Rachael has provided me with the standard I love AND the shortcuts I need. My husband was thrilled to have Chicken (Veal) Marsala with Egg Fettucini and Broccoli with Garlic and Asiago, for a weeknight meal. We even had the Quick Tiramisu for dessert! Rachael is really likable and down-to-earth, she is the first person to tell you she's a home taught cook, just like many of us! I find her recipes leave room for me to make them my own and I am also pleased that many (but not all) of the recipes fit my desire to cook healthy meals! I can't wait until her 'Entertaining' book is released. If I had one wish, it would be that she DID enjoy baking, but hey, she included quite a few recipes for quick and easy desserts--I'm happy!

    I just love her recipes.

Her recipes are NOT for the professional chef. But they are just perfect for the people who don't have all day for cooking just like me. That's what she says all the time in every show and her recipes are just for that purpose. It may not be fancy but full of fun!

BY FAR THIS IS HER BEST!!!!

I have all Rachael's books, and I MUST say, her recipes are easy, REALLY only take 30 minutes... my family thinks I slaved for hours! AND TASTY!!!! Everything is so flavorful..reminds me of my own mama's good home cooking. Her ingredients are easy to find at the local grocery store as well. The best part, is almost everything she makes is from scratch or pretty close to it.... and still in 30 min. KEEP WRITING RACHAEL... can't wait for your Entertainment book to hit the shelves in the fall.. !!!!!

    RACHEL ROCKS!!!!

I work and live in NYC, which means, not much time or a big enough kitchen to cook in. Rachel has helped me manage my cooking time, so that I can cook something nice for me and my boyfriend and be out the door full and content for our night on the town within an hour. I recommend the ROAST POTATOES WITH ROSEMARY, as a side, but make enough because you'll want it again to with you for lunch tommorrow! Thank you Rachel for your GREAT show, and this book is a wonderful complement. I am a novice, and it has opened the door to cooking and the heart-healthy benefits of EVOO.
