31 Days at Bethlehem's Manger: A Christmas Devotionalby Shane Johnson
The manger contained the cross just as the acorn contains the oak. It was just a matter of time. When the Lord gave His Son by birth, it was in order to give His Son in death. The crucifixion was the incarnation brought to maturity. Conversely, the incarnation was the preparation for the crucifixion. It took 33 years to grow that mighty tree and only six hours to fell it. Three days later the "tree" had sprouted again and spread out all its branches to fill and bless the earth.
See the One whom the heaven of heavens cannot contain, pocketed in a manger stall! See the One, the train of whose robe fills the temple, wrapped in swaddling rags! See the One who dwells between the cherubim of glory, dying between two despicable thieves! Let us bow down and marvel, for this is our God.
