Taking material from the '60s through the '90s, mostly from the vaults of the Muse and Landmark imprints, 32 Gems From 32 Jazz is an excellent three-disc sampler of the mainstream jazz label's catalog holdings and a fitting celebration of its first three years of existence. Nearly every major straight-ahead jazz style from that period is represented, from hard bop and hints of "outside" improvisation to funky soul-jazz and bluesy grooves, making it a great introductory survey to one of the best catalogs outside of Blue Note and Original Jazz Classics.
