Overview

In 2009, Leah Day started a blog with the goal of 365 new free motion quilting designs. Over the next two and a half years, she shared each design with photos and a video tutorial on her blog, The Free Motion Quilting Project.

This book is a compilation of all 365 designs, organized in the order they were originally posted to the project. Flipping through this book, you'll find each design illustrated with clear, high quality photos.

Each design is known as a "filler" design, which means they can fill your quilts in a continuous line without breaking thread. Fillers are also unique in the fact that you do not have to mark your quilt top before stitching the design. Each design is governed by a simple set of rules you can easily memorize, much like cursive writing, and then quilt over any area of your quilt.

No, this book is not an elementary primer on free motion quilting, but a unique collection of photos designed to excite and inspire you. Stitch the designs exactly as they are shown, or play with creating your own variations. The possibilities are endless!

Meet the Author

It was the burning desire to create a quilt for her wedding that drove Leah Day to finally leap into quilting with both feet in 2005. While she'd wanted to learn for most of her life, quilting had always been too difficult a hobby to master on her own. Finally at the age of 21, she began actively taking classes and joined a local guild in order to gain the necessary skills. In 2007 with the birth of her son, Leah began a series of goddess quilts and started focusing on honing her free motion quilting skills.

By 2009, Leah was frustrated with the limited designs and ideas for free motion filler designs, so she created a free, online blog called The Free Motion Quilting Project to share her new designs with the world. This blog then lead to a successful online quilt store at DayStyleDesigns.com. Leah is the author of three books featuring her free motion filler designs: 365 Free Motion Quilting Designs, From Daisy to Paisley, a book featuring 50 beginner designs, and From Feathers to Flames, a book featuring 60 intermediate level designs.

Love Leah Day's 365 FMQ program and followed it online. The book shows full color and clear examples of each design. It does NOT show how to do each design. To get that info, you need to go to her website and search for that numbered example. There she shows in exquisite detail how to stitch each pattern. You could go online and print off each design individually, but candidly it is not worth it - that is a LOT of paper to print. Use the book to find the design you want, then create it yourself, or get more detail from the website. It has all designs set up to compare quickly so you can find the type of quilt design you want in your project. This book is in my "KEEPER" library of quilt books.

This book is the result of the year's worth of free motion quilting patterns as seen and explained in depth on Leah Day's website Free Motion Quilting Project. She is a young genius whose stitching versatility and way with teaching has inspired thousands of quilters - some many decades older than Leah, and some younger. Full of vivaciousness and energy, the girl has been an inspiration to me for sure. I bought the book, and along with that you always can see the videos on her site and on You Tube. Each one of these patterns is talked about and taped in action and can be seen and used without copyright complexities. Leah has a unique approach to making a living while sharing her wonderful designs and teaching with all.

Beautiful designs, I'm just returning to the quilting scene and have always quilted by hand, well not anymore!

Very inspirational, hope to try many of the designs. I have another of her books & often refer to it, and have incorporated some of her methods. To be honest, the simple beginner ones but I do love her videos & explanations.
