My partner and I read this book to each other during our long distance relationship of almost two years each reading a few pages to each then commenting and reflecting on the comfort the words provided us. Ten years later we are reading it again after rediscovering it on our bookshelf only this time we read it while snuggling cozy in bed together instead of on the phone long distance!
365 Words of Well-Being for Women, is one of those hidden treasures I enjoy discovering in this day and age, where there seems to be so much repetition within the personal development literature section. Each definition of these 'common' words that fill our daily lives, reflects a gentle compassion, empathy and inspiration in equal measure. They touch us through our past experiences, challenge us to rethink the hereto 'acceptable behaviors' that have been placed around the feminine, while lifting our spirits to that magical place that can only be found within joy and the ability to laugh at ourselves and our experiences. In short, it was a surprise...a very pleasant one.
I found this book by accident at my local B&N but have since bought two other copies for gifts. The concept is simple -- 365 pages, each headed by an active verb -- but I love the unexpected places the author takes you in each entry. It's not a typical inspirational book -- it's funny and daring and spontaneous, as well as wise. Whenever I read a few pages, whatever my mood, I feel much more energized and reconnected to the world. The two friends I've given it to have loved it, too. It's a wonderful little present to give yourself or someone else in your life.
