The re-issue of this strong-selling gift book (a companion to 41 Uses for a Grandma) will get a smile of recognition from both grandfathers and grandkids. From dance partner to handyman, the fun and functions of grandfathers are inventively explored. Some of the uses are straightforward, like the arms-circled-out-in-front "ball hoop." Other entries, such as grandpas' "uses" as entertainment center, butler, and mediator, supply kids with a fresh perspective. At the end, it all adds up to grandpa being a wonderful friend.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"Don't be surprised when little ones demand to take Grandma and Grandpa through these books, page by charming page. These books break the mold, reminding us that grandparents make wonderful e-pals, yoga instructors, and sports fans. They're a delightful bridge between the generations, a terrific catalyst for a relationship that can be as important as the one kids have with [parents]."

Publishers Weekly
A pair of picture books by Harriet Ziefert, illus. by Amanda Haley, enumerates all the ways in which grandparents play a role in children's lives. "1. security blanket/ 2. partner/ 3. thermometer," begins 41 Uses for a Grandma, as Haley's finely brushed outlines and pastel watercolor wash in spot illustrations depict a grandmother comforting her grandchildren in the dark, acting as a buddy on an undersea swim, and placing a hand to an ailing child's forehead. Grandfathers bake and kick up their heels on the dance floor in 40 Uses for a Grandpa. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
