Overview

Author Donald Glover brings together four decades' worth of successful physical education teaching in 40 Years in the Gym: Favorite Physical Education Activities, a compilation of favorite activities he has created, collected, adapted, and used to teach physical education at all levels. This easy-to-use collection of tried-and-true activities spans the spectrum of physical education curriculum, covering the following subjects and more:

-Class organization and warm-ups

-Character education

-Team building

-Movements and skills, including rhythms, gymnastics and tumbling, and sport and fitness skills

-Obstacle courses and stations

-Interdisciplinary activities

Glover not only includes a wide variety of activities, but presents the content in unique and proven ways. Activities feature specific questions you can ask to challenge students, such as, “I wonder how many of you think you can do a three-point balance?” These questions get students engaged and thinking creatively about how they can meet the challenge.

The book also features an activity finder to help you quickly find an activity that fits your lesson plan. If you're a new teacher, you'll find this book ideal for helping you build a foundation of activities to use in your class. If you're an experienced teacher, you can use 40 Years in the Gym to provide great new ideas that can replace activities that are “tired” or that don't seem to be working.

40 Years in the Gym provides a rich collection that elementary physical educators can dip into any time they need activities that are tried and true.
