Overview

George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States, has authored a personal biography of his father, George H. W. Bush, the 41st President.

Forty-three men have served as President of the United States. Countless books have been written about them. But never before has a President told the story of his father, another President, through his own eyes and in his own words. A unique and intimate biography, the book covers the entire scope of the elder President Bush’s life and career, including his service in the Pacific during World War II, his pioneering work in the Texas oil business, and his political rise as a Congressman, U.S. Representative to China and the United Nations, CIA Director, Vice President, and President.  The book shines new light on both the accomplished statesman and the warm, decent man known best by his family. In addition, George W. Bush discusses his father’s influence on him throughout his own life, from his childhood in West Texas to his early campaign trips with his father, and from his decision to go into politics to his own two-term Presidency.

From Barnes & Noble
A Barnes & Noble Best Book of 2014

Only twice in history has the son of a U.S. president followed in his father’s footsteps, and in this unprecedented hybrid of biography and memoir, George W. Bush offers both an affecting, unashamedly admiring account of his father’s remarkable political career and an unexpectedly candid glimpse into his own. It’s a book that only George W. Bush could have written, an intimate look at a family life lived on the world stage. See all of the Best Nonfiction Books of 2014.

The New York Times - Michiko Kakutani
At its best, the book has the qualities of the younger Mr. Bush's recent and much-talked-about paintings: It's folksy, sharply observed and surprisingly affecting…The most persuasive sections of this book deal not with the political, but with the personal. Mr. Bush's writing doesn't have the earnest charm of his father's letters…or the literary gifts displayed by his wife, Laura, in her memoir…But…this volume comes close to capturing Mr. Bush's distinctive voice—by turns jokey and sentimental, irreverent and sincere.
The New York Times Book Review - Peter Baker
Bush's conversational storytelling makes for engaging reading…Beyond his father's well-known résumé, the book offers a sense of the toll a public life takes on a family, even one as accustomed to the spotlight as the Bushes…For a deeper look into this fascinating relationship, we will probably have to wait for presidential historians…For now, we have a son's loving testimonial…

This is a very interesting book. Never before has a U.S. President written a book about his father the U.S. President. It’s a very interesting read. I think republicans will enjoy this book and democrats will scream foul. Being an independent, I’m in the middle. It’s interesting to see George W.’s views of his father.

Heartwarming!!! I truly appreciate the love that was put into writing this book. It is full of respect, admiration, and stories that will make you smile. Whether you liked either as President, you cannot deny the historic nature of the father/son presidential experience! Personally, I admire the Bush family and their commitment to our country! BRAVO "43" for sharing your personal insights on "41"!!

I read half the book (second half) in one sitting last night.  I liked it a lot.  In my 62 years I thought George H.W. Bush was the best president with the most capable cabinet.  The 1991-92 post-war recession caught up to him along with H. Ross Perot.

This book was both well written and easy to read. The events in this book are clearly described and the pictures add much to the story. The love between son and father is evident. George W. Bush brings a unique perspective to presidential biographies. After reading this book, my heart swelled with pride to be an American. I highly recommend this book!

    Great Book

Wonderfully written from the heart. I loved getting to know this upstanding gentleman through the eyes of his son.
It only enforced my impression and feelings toward and about George H. W. Bush.
It is always enlightening to read the real behind the scenes happenings of our history and to be able to personalize the people and places, the why's and why not's.
I can only say to G.W a big Thank You very much for the gift of this book.

    Wonderful book - highly recommended

George W. is a very good writer, as demonstrated in Decision Points. Here he takes a very affectionate look at his father. He admits his is not an unbiased view, and that's fine so long as it's clearly acknowledged. There is little discussion of politics or policy; primarily it is an intimate portrait of a person who was clearly a very fine man. It centers on the ways in which he interacted with his family, and the things that molded him and drove him to succeed in business, public service and life in general. It reads well and is engrossing, and by the time you are finished you will know George H. W. Bush very well, and admire him very much.

The book was very entertaining and the deluxe copy was exceptional. Very presidential. I would advise you to get the deluxe edition if you can. Having a book about a president written by another president and signed is something I will cherish.
