The Bestselling New Detective Series of the Decade Just Got Hotter, Deadlier, and More Suspenseful. During a break in the trial, she retreats to a picturesque town that is reeling from a string of grisly murders-crimes that bear a link to a haunting, unsolved case from her rookie years. Now, with her friends in the Women's Murder Club, Lindsay must battle for her life on two fronts: in a trial rushing to a climax, and against an unknown adversary willing to do anything to hide the truth about the homicides-including kill again?

Editorial Reviews

The Women's Murder Club reconvenes under the worst circumstances. After a routine arrest goes terribly awry, a young woman is caught in the crossfire and killed. Lieutenant Lindsay Boxer must defend herself against charges of police brutality in a case that has made coast-to-coast headlines. In this high-anxiety atmosphere, Boxer and her Women's Murder Club buddies are also searching frantically for clues to a series of Half Moon Bay murders.
Publishers Weekly
Mega-bestseller Patterson teams up with journalist/novelist Paetro for a rousing fourth installment of the Women's Murder Club series. This time, bright, tough SFPD Lt. Lindsay Boxer is battling police brutality charges while chasing down a clan of murderers. When a botched police arrest of two gun-toting minors expands from a shaky preliminary hearing to what promises to be a nerve-rattling jury trial of Lindsay, she flees the pre-trial media frenzy for the serene haven of sister Cat's house in Half Moon Bay. But instead of finding relaxation and romance with her Homeland Security beau, Lindsay becomes embroiled in the ruthless crimes of a troika of killers who've been slashing and flogging victims all over town. With surprisingly little aid from the Murder Club, Lindsay performs her detective handiwork (and steps on the toes of Half Moon's police chief). As more bodies surface, sketchy suspects like a smitten grease monkey and a slimy porn star emerge, then the murderous threesome set their sights on Lindsay. Back in San Francisco, Lindsay is acquitted; she then rushes back to Half Moon Bay to apprehend the elusive villains and put to rest her unresolved first homicide case as well. Heroic super-sleuthing, a steadily gripping plot line and 146 snappy chapters add up to suspense fiction euphoria for Patterson's legion of fans. I was hooked from the beginning. I love James Patterson and can't wait to read more.

I read this book and finished it in three days. It's another adventure of Lindsey Boxer, the chief detective of SFPD. Lindseys was trying to catch a serial killer but got messed up with two teen-suspects in a car chase. The two teens ended in a crash and got injured. Being a good cop, Lindsey and her partner put their guns away to help the kids out of the car but the darn teens pulled their guns out and shot at her and the partner. She shot them back in self defense. One of the kids was dead and another was crippled. Lindseys ended up being sued for police brutality by the parents of the teens. This part of the book diverted my attention from the serial killer a little. But in the middle of the book, the tale twisted and ended well. The killer was a good surprise. I enjoyed this book very much. I think it's even better than the Judge and Jury. I still enjoy Patterson's thriller on the whole. It's always a good quick read. This one is a thumb up.

Another gripping tale of the Women's Murder Club that keeps you begging for more. The authors' talents for keeping readers guessing about who done it and what will happen to our heroines next makes it hard to put this book down and anxious to purchase the next book in the series.

In the typical James Patterson style, you follow Lindsey and the Womens Murder Club to solve the crime!

This was my very first JPatterson novel. I was taken from the very first chapter. His style just flows... I also enjoyed the way he develops his characters and his talents to describe the scenes and build the suspense is rather brilliant. I finished it in 2days. Looking forward to reading the rest of his books...

From LONDON BRIDGES to BIG BAD WOLF, I've read them all--the Pattersons. I have to say, though, that his first books are still his best, and I consider 4TH OF JULY in a 'first book' series since he's obviously still going strong and writing more and more.

Good, quick read. Not as creepy as some of his other books or quite as suspensful. Maybe I'm just used to them now since I've read most of them. Still, would recommend.

I really enjoyed this book. I had read the rest in the series previously and found this one to be the most entertaining. I really enjoyed the beachy location. Very quick read. I read it in about 5 hrs!

I have A.D.D. when it comes to reading but I couldn't put this book down. The plot thickens, the writing style brilliant and the characters are well developed. A must read. The chapters are 1-2 pages at most so you can always get that next chapter in.

This series is one of the most entertaining groups of murder-pursuit books ever written. I started with 1st to Die and read the books in order. However, they are so good that it really doesn't matter where you begin. 4th of July is a fast-paced, screeching ride with just enough twists and turns to keep you enthralled. The multiple murders within the book keeps you reading way into the night...and cranks up your adrenaline for another ride later! My only complaint is that Patterson and Paetro need to write more books and get them to the market faster!!!

This kept me interested the entire time. I was on a long road trip and finished it very quickly. The short chapters just tempted me to keep reading until I finished it. This is a must read. I am already wanting to read the rest of this series!!

Over all the book was amazing as all of Pattersons are but this one seemed to get off to a very slow start, I had problems getting into it at the beginning and my mother kept assuring me that it would indeed get better and of course it did. Over all I would reccomend this book but be prepared to want to put it down for the first part. After part 2 though its great!

I read all of the Lindsay Boxer and this one is the best by far!! Definite page turner...can't wait for the next book to come out!!

I thought this book was a good next book after 3rd degree. I got to know more about Lindsay Boxer and her family. I was surprised at who were the killers and why. Different angle than I thought. Like others, I thought the end came to quick but definitely a page turner. I'm looking forward to more in this series.
