Robert R. Spillane
A straight-forward and exciting guide for the novice and veteran administrator in public or private schools. Jacobs and Langley have compiled a work that is not only an excellent trade tool, but also a must for professors of leadership classes, as a textbook or supplemental workbook.
Michael Fullan
Langley and Jacobs have written a book that beautifully captures the practical essence of leadership. Each of the five chapters on essential skills is valuable in its own right, but it is the way that the five sets of skills are brought together that makes the book so powerful.

Excellent Resource for Educational Leaders and Teachers

Most books that I have read about educational leadership take the highrode approach to the actual process of helping educators leaving them without specific ways of applying the skills of leadership. 5 Essential Skills for School Leaders is a breath of fresh air offering educators real world examples and exercises that allow for the application of the skills that are addressed in the book. This is an excellent resource for all educational leaders and even those not in the education field.
