Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Voya Reviews
This attractive, well-designed resource serves as an informative guide to "new industry" jobs and careers in the new millennium. Offering vocational guidance through job descriptions, salary ranges, educational requirements, and occupational outlook projections, this career compendium is arranged alphabetically by job title and includes interesting quotes and tips by those gainfully employed in the twelve industries categorized. A sampling of some of the most notable--and most intriguing--job titles includes adventure travel specialist, digital agent, information broker, psychopharmacologist, myotherapist, forensic psychophysiologist, grief counselor, medical entrepreneur, and fusion engineer. This listing of new wave jobs is meant to inspire readers rather than to serve as a comprehensive reference tool. In this regard, the book succeeds magnificently in offering a fascinating collection of uncommon ways to earn a living. Although the book is labeled juvenile, it is more appropriate for twelfth grade and above. Its pages are too densely packed and full of statistics, graphs, and sidebars, with little attention to eye-catching photographs, cartoons, or sketches that might have made it more appealing to the younger set. Appallingly incorrect grammar throughout the text is a serious weakness. The title offers a glib approach that falls flat. In an attempt to be hip, quality is sacrificed. With these reservations, this title is recommended for high school media centers and public libraries. Glossary. Index. Charts. Further Reading.
